Default Speedometer lube

I remember someone explaining how to disassemble and lube a speedometer but can't find the info. Can anyone help with either the thread or the info itself? The speedo is for a 1962 full size. It sticks and jumps around. It is not the cable.

This is the only thread I could find that seemed appropriate. Crazy problem, best of luck.

I had the exact same problem with my 62 Catalina. Now it is really perfect, +- 1 MPH at 80 based on my GPS. There is one expert that I know of who is absolutely meticulous, honest and trustworthy to make your speedo like new. Peter Serio. in Columbus. OH. He is a member here. BTW, you are correct, the cable isn't the issue. He explained that there is a tiny lube cup within the instrument itself that dries up over time and causes the needle to jump. If you drive it a long time like this, it will ruin the movement. These instruments were never designed to last 60+ years and they just wear out and the lube dries up. He said the long horizontal speedometers are particularly difficult because of the length and weight of the needle. When he reconditions the instrument, he said he needs to remove the paint from the needle because painting over the needle makes it even worse by adding more weight to it. It's watchmaker type work and he is the guy. Take your instrument out and send it to him for restoration, you won't be sorry. I felt his cost was reasonable as well after he explains what's involved. He has some NOS parts for the long bar speedo's as well if needed. Good luck with it. I just reread that old thread. I can't believe it's been 5 years since I had it fixed. Still perfect BTW.
