Chris - Got your PM.

Goatless - that's good info; wish I was closer to CT.

Default Tires for Scott's Ram IV:

Jeremy, just give Chris a few sets of tires and I'll get them from him and have them waiting in Stanton, so when Scott gets there, his extra tires will be there!!!!!! I am sure Chris will be ok with this. I'm just trying to be nice by getting the tires delivered to Scott and it was very nice of you to offer them in the first place.

Well Scott... If you get to the point where you're ready to go and still need a set of tires, give me a shout. Brian (Guilty) has the ability to get them anywhere.

Thanks again for the offers to assist. However, I don't think that the car will be ready for the track until next year.

hey scott this thread got me fired up so I loaded my car for the first time and drove it around the block a few times just for a trial.....smelled rubber burning when I got back, turns out I had to beat the squat out of right side trailer fender which did a nice job of rubbing some new rubber off inside tire sidewall. really pissed me off. good to go now. just have to decide when and where.

Slash - sorry to hear about your trailer. Are you going to race your car? Pure Stock? What 400, trans (M20?), and gear do you have?

Well, the RAIV motor is home & tucked away in the garage next to an AMC 401, Ford 427 tunnel port, a few RAIII's, etc. Need to install a few motors this winter, I guess.

FYI - computer dyno predicted a real strong number for hp, but Jim thinks it's a bit optimistic. Should be more than enough to be competitive, however...

Thanks,

Scott

scott, I would like to run it in pure stock up at brainard this weekend. big muscle car race/show. hear they get some 400 participants. 3 day event. problem being wife and kids wanna tag along and play at water park to the tune of about $200.00 a day/night. more likely I may hit a test and tune session at another strip in a few weeks. cost me $50.00 plus fuel there and back. a little more in my ball park. scott I have the #'s engine aside for some too early dated stock/correct 12 heads. .030 over 400/ wide ratio, 3:55's HD saf-t-trac cam is old school crane with similar grind to R/A 4 spec. I hear every track is tad different as to what to or not to allow although they want us to follow NHRA guidelines for class. this is mostly stuff I get off each strips website, not gospel. no purse money this weekend. I think if they really wanted to DQ me they could make me swap my adjustable front shocks, dig deep and see my R.A.R.E mannys are O.S. or not let me run at all for a 2 inch crack in my upper windshield if they see it and wanna get real fussy. like I said, I am most likely to hit a test and tune. tHen I can try my drag radials and not worry about anything. TOM

Funny you should mention that! The BB Chebby guys around here are stompin' their feet because we claimed that the '69 RAIV would go 12s "as she sits"....bias ply tires...full exhaust and all. "No way" Well...the 13.09 off the trailer at 106+ has them wondering now. The second pass picked up the 60' from 2.17 to 2.06...which put us there, but she drove right thru the clutch in fourth and netted a 94 mph pass. We aim to fall back and regroup this week, as we had a custom clutch made by American Driveline which they guaranteed!!! So far...this is the third clutch in 700 miles. Seems those Zooms aren't what they used to be. Anyway...good luck with your build. We are looking at hitting the chassis dyno as well once all the bugs are tweaked out of her. Take care. Ron

Ron - Sounds like you'll easily be in the 12s. FYI - most folks I talk to are running the Centerforce dual friction clutch. Also, is yours a stock rebuild, to full Pure Stock specs (more compression, Pertronix, aftermarket exhaust, etc), or somewhere in between?

Latest news - I figured the front suspension and brakes needed a complete rebuild, the rear suspension needed the same, need to install a new ring and pinion, etc. When it was all removed, there's just a few bolts holding it on the frame, right? So I decided to take the body off the frame so I could sandblast and paint the frame. And while it's off the frame, I might as well paint it, right? Needs to go back to the original Pepper Green. Interior is in pretty good shape, but it could use a bit of sprucing up, too. Wiring is 40 years old, so might as well replace that. Time to install a Pypes exhaust. Need to rebuild the M21. New radiator. New front and rear valences. Did I miss anything?

As of right now, the front and rear suspension are off. Engine and trans are out. Seats and carpet are out. Body mount bolts are fighting me, so I'll probably have to do some cutting to get at 'em from the top. Hope to have the frame out soon.

Pics to follow. Hope it doesn't take forever to finish. At least the motor is done and the interior is in good shape.

Scott

ah the mightaswells. know them well. and hope that doesn't happen with the front end rebuilt on the GT-37 this winter. of course I had planned to rebuild the M-21 as well. replace the cobled up POS exhaust system. and then .... well, you know

restorations, step into the abyss. :-)

I was thinking about this thread today as I try to figure out what to do this summer. I didn't get a chance to do much last year because of a lack of funds, but I'm hoping this year goes better. I'd be happy to make it out to see the races out in MI,even if I can't race.
Any updates you guys? Anyones car done? Is anyone going to the races in MI (I think it was June 25th)?

It's off the frame. Working on details to send it to a PY member's shop for bodywork and paint. Looks like my RAIII Antique Gold Judge is sold, so that will provide much of the funds necessary to get things jump started.

Thanks,

Scott

I'm putting the exhaust on mine now. Will pick up control arms this week for a rebuild and put them on at the end of the month. I sent in my registration for the FAST/Factory Stock race June 25/26, so the GT-37 will be there. This will probably be the last race ..... with the current motor. New motor is being built and will be in the car in time for the Pure Stock Drags at Stanton in Sept.

Car was delivered to Supercar Creations in Barberton, Ohio. Owned by Darrell Davidson, PY member and GTOAA Judge. I've seen his work - quite impressive.

Motor is done, I'll rebuild the trans, and restore the frame and suspension. Darrell will handle bodywork, paint, interior, etc.

Scott

good to hear Scott.

for those interested, I completed the exhaust, finished up the front end rebuild and converted it to manual steering. Got it aligned this past Sat and she's ready to rock and roll for this weekend's race.

two weeks from today and the first day of the PSD will have been completed. Sadly, the new motor isn't ready. I don't want it rushed to get it in and ready, do it once, do it right, so it'll be about another month. A little bummed, but thats fine as I'm that close. This gives me more time to fix a few things here and there on the car and continue to practice launching the car.
There is talk of a FAST/FS race at US131 in Martin at the end of Oct, so thats the new goal for the new mill. We'll see what happens.

As for the improvements/changes/fixes I did prior to the Martin race in June. It's amazing what a good exhaust system will do for the breathing on the engine. shaved 1/2 a second and gained 3mph.
