Default Rochester Quadrajet - 7040270

Has anyone used a reproduction carb? I need a carb as the original was gone when I bought the car, not going to be a show car but would like it to be as stock as possible. I dont want to buy an original on ebay as I dont know much about these carbs and dont wanna pay $2000 for a reproduction that I can get for $400. The guy selling the reproduction said they look and work as good, if not better then the original, and can stamp them with the numbers I want.

thanks.

If someone can provide me with the correct casting and stamped numbers of a 7040270 in a PM, I'll let you know of one for half of that $2000. I bought one for my Judge when I owned it as it had the exact date stamp of the Judges' original one.

Let me correct my first post: I don't wanna pay $2000 for an original and later find out it is a reproduction that I can buy for $400. I don't care if it is date correct. I just want a working ram air carb for my car. And if I can't find an original for a reasonable price and if the reproductions work as good as the original and look close enough I might go that route. Until I feel the need for a original numbers matching date correct carb.

You can have a Q-jet calibrated to the 270(ram air) specs without the restamping....

I have never seen a correctly "reproduced" RamAir Q-jet.
In fact itīs very hard if not impossible to copy a 1969-70 RamAir Q-jet throttle plate and air horn.

To replace a 1970 RA carb my first choice would be a 1973-74 Pontiac unit, modify the idle circuit accordingly to suit the engine, then tune the main and WOT for best performance.
Also, these units have provision for an electric choke.
1969-74 Buick Q-jets are also nice if you have to have the divorced choke.

What about the SR 270 carbs? Date won't be correct, but they are RA spec'd carbs??

The SR 270 carbs and all SR carbs are manufactured by Delco/Rochester and are correct in every respect.

This is NOT the case with epay carbbutchers "manufactured" RamAir Q-jets.

I got taken on epay over a 270 carb for my Judge, wish i had paid 400 for it. Turned out to be a fairly well done copy, still was pissed that i spent over 1K for it. i still have been in the hunt for one of these dated in the sept oct early Nov date range. Not sure how the fakes run but I may end up finding out if i don't find a real one at least for the short term and I can let everyone know. mark
