Default Driver Side Headlight Issue

72 GTO - all original wiring

PS Headlights both high and low beam work fine along with side marker and turn signal below the headlights

However, DS Low Beam is weak and High Beam doesnt work at all

DS side marker and turn signal light below the headlights both work fine so I am assuming the issue isnt a ground problem

I replaced the High Beam but it still doesnt work. I would have also replaced the low beam but the back of the headlight is round vs. a triangular wire harness receptacle

Any ideas on what the issue is with the DS headlights?

Also can I take a little bit of the white portion off the new low beam so it fits in the low beam headlight plug (see pics)?

Looks like your plug has the contact from the old headlight still stuck in it?

Good observation. You can see I havent changed to many of these over the years. Yes that was a terminal broken off in the receptacle which apparently is the one which also runs over to the High Beam. My light bulb basically just came on too, lol.

The High Beam now works and I am sure the Low Beam one will also once I plug the new one in.

Which does bring me back to can I trim the white portion of the new Low Beam headlamp connector which is round to it fits into the receptacle? I dont want to cut up the original plug if I dont have to.

Thanks ID67 and Jonsie!

I trimmed down the white insulation on the headlight, installed it and everything works great now.

Thanks again ID67goat and Jonsie!
