Thumbs up Thrush Welded 40 series copies

I seem to change mufflers on my cars like underwear. They are either too quiet with good tone or too loud with no tone at all. I don't like that rednecky blappity blap but I don't like the quiet tones either. Flowmaser 40s are hit and miss depending on the car. Some sound really good and some are too deep and quiet. Never had a muffler that I was in love with on my 78 for the reasons listed above. I got a pair of the Thrush Weldeds from Oreilly this morning and put them on my 78 and wow. I'm impressed. Thought I'd let you guys know in case you were considering them. I'll try to get a video of the car. They have that real Flowmaster tone but a bit more metallic and a tad louder with a little more kick. I was running the Flo Pro V forces on it which were way louder than a 40 and sounded alot like a glasspack even though they are a 2 chamber design. I had a set of real 40s on it which sounded good but it was a bit too dead sounding. For what they cost I'll definately be using them in the future. Just an FYI.

which ones?
http://www.summitracing.com/search/P...keyword=thrush

How do they sound at idle? I need muffs for my '67 GTO and I want something loud but not that glasspack "blatty" sound at full throttle.

Its the first ones listed. The Welded. They have the flowmaster 40 series sound but have a little more tin can metallic sound. Here's a video on youtube of a '72 Camaro. Hate to admit this but that car sounds damn good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDfn7n6p19o

Man they do sound pretty good. Are they about half the price of the flowmonkeys?

I'll try to get a vid of my 78 with them. You can pick them up anywhere for around 30-40 bucks each. I got mine at Oreilly, Advance carries them too.

Does the Thrush Welded have the RESONANCE like a Flowmaster 40?

Not that I know of. I'm about a day away from finishing my '77's cosmetic restoration. It has real Flowmaster 40s on a 3" system with H pipe. I have a pair of the Thrush's waiting to go on the car. Instead of just filming my '78 that already has them I was going to film the 77 first with the real ones then again with the Thrushs. Hopefully the difference in tone will show up on a video.

Just uploaded some vids on youtube of the car. Video quality sucks but the sounds is all that matters. I listed the links in the 77-81 section in the thread I started about the car. Check it out.

That vid said the Flowmasters. Are they still on the car in that video? I went from the flowmaster 40's

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z49Ag7QtEs8

I put the thrush cheap ones. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/WLK-17696/

They sound okay... but I was looking for that tinny sound that you said. The 406 is a wicked low compression and a small cam. so any throaty tinny muscle sound is what I am looking for. Plus the welded are 1/2 the price. I would love to see a vic of the Pontiac with them on. The Camaro did sound mean....

This video is the thrush weldeds. It has Flowmaster tailpipes but thrush mufflers. I need to get a video of my 78 with the ultradyne cam. Very tinny sounding.

With any muffler the sound is totally going to be dictated by the engine combo. Both my cars are 400 W72s but the 77 with 3" sounds way deeper. Not sure if either motor has been bored as I've never taken either one down that far. Only difference I know for a fact is the cams are different and pipe size.

400 +.030.
Headers, 2.5" straight to the back.

Should sound nice and throaty. I have the Thrush turbos with no tailpipes on there now. SO I can imagine that she will sound more tame with a little kick

Thanks.

BTW, keep those videos coming!! I love the black rims on your car!! Makes her look MEAN!!!
