Recommended paint for H.O./Ram Air Manifolds??
I purchased the 67 High Output style manifolds from our host for my 67 goat, and I'd like to put on some sort of coating on them to keep them protected.
I purchased some Engine Enamel that when you spray it on it looks like brand new cast iron. However the paint is rated up to 500 degrees. Now I know the exhaust portion of the car gets pretty hot, but how hot I'm not sure. Is the stuff I bought going to cut it or am I going to have to buy another exhaust paint with a higher temperature rating?? Don't want to put in the effort of putting it on only to find out once I actually get the car going again that the paint is chipping. |

I used the eastwood exhaust manifold paint w/a foam applicator as the suggest. Looks great and has last quite well over several long distance drives. On my pontiac, I also covered the center two exhaust ports on the head since the pontiac blue always burns off as well.

Someone on these boards said they had good luck pre-painting the exhaust ports with Eastwood's Stainless, then painting the whole head with color- Pontiac blue, of course! I'm trying that on my heads, but it will be a while before I run it and can post feedback.

I've used Nucast high temp by VHT Paints. Looks great and is rated to 1500 degrees.

I was thinking about this and really there is nothing wrong with just leaving them as cast. A car that's used will look used and although trying to maintain a clean look if fine. So is allowing them to "properly age" the way any driven car will. Besides, if they are rusty you can spot a leak faster.

wouldnt u want the cast iron por vs POR-15 "black velvet" manifold coating. i would think black velvet is black..isnt it?...as for doing the heads first, i would think u would use por-20 which is silver so if the blue paint does peel, at least u have a fbright lake color underneath
