If anything ever happens to my number matching M21 in my gto to where it can't be fixed ( broken case) this tkx will be the replacement.

I have had bad luck with things shipped to me frustrating for sure, I sure hope they work all the bugs out on your order before mine ships, just saying.

It's the height of crunch time for shipping right now due to the holidays, so I think there will be a lot of delays once an item has been picked up by the carrier. I bought a tool from Eastwood that shipped on 11/30 and FedEx was supposed to deliver on 12/6. That day came and went, and the updated delivery date has said "Pending" ever since. In my experience, FedEx has been the least reliable carrier in terms of meeting the target delivery date.

I have quotes out to American Powertrain, Silver Sport, and Modern Driveline for my 70 TA. I asked for quotes on the TKX as well as the Magnum.
Did anyone go with the cryo treatment of the TKX to increase the torque capacity to 985 lb/ft? Do you feel it is necessary? What made everyone choose the TKX over the Magnum 6 speed?

I have chosen the 5 speed route over the 6 speed for a myriad of reasons.
Having owned 3 different 6 speed cars I always found myself never using 5th gear for anything and would routinely just shift from 4th to 6th. I will say I do like the gear ratios in the 6 speeds better, but for retro swaps I find the 5 speeds much easier to deal with. I only need 1 overdrive gear anyway. Plus the fact that 6 speeds require some surgery to fit and I find a lot of guys just don't want to cut on the cars. As far as the cryo treatment, I've thought about that in the past but really don't think it's necessary now. The new TKX is a much stronger unit even though they haven't changed the rating. The case is a stronger design. If you talk to Bruce at MDL where you got one of your quotes, he'll tell you they are not worried about pushing up to 800hp through these things and they have routinely pushed 1200+ through the magnums despite their ratings. Get Bruce on the phone and discuss the reasons why will better than me trying to explain it. For most street guys with 5-600 hp that might go to the track once a year I just don't see a problem at all with a TKX. Just an FYI, when I talked to Bruce at Goodguys about 3 weeks ago, he told me they have 100 TKX models on the shelf ready to go, while others seem to have a pretty extensive waiting time. And he's closer to you, just up in Utah vs shipping from Tennessee. |

FedEx sucks. I'm still waiting for 2 different things I've ordered. They send you text messages saying it's on the way with a shipping date and nothing shows up. Next you get a text updated delivery pending.
