LOL ain't that the truth. I've swapped more of those things in the last 15 years than I can count. Seems pretty much everyone out here is on that 5 speed bandwagon and literally every classic car has one these days.

For good reason too. Just can't beat the driving experience these things provide.

I have done a lot of things to my car like Wilwood 12 in brakes all around, hydoboost and 18" wheels and all have vast improvements, but if I had to pick the one best thing; it have to be the 5 speed.

I bought my kit from Modern Driveline. They Always answered the phones when asking technical questions. Happy with the kit, paid $5100 with free shipping.

That white lightening shifter is slick by American Power Train, like the idea of adjustability. Thanks for drawing my attention to that.

Your welcome. It's become my favorite for these swaps.

It comes with a shifter body that positions the shifter in the correct place for any particular application, but the added adjustability it provides to tweak that stick in small increments is awesome and something I haven't seen from others.

In my wife's car it allowed me to move the shifter just a pinch closer to the driver, making it easier to reach for 5th, without interfering with the console. Not to mention it's a nice shifting piece too with adjustable spring tension in both directions.

As an update, I purchased a complete kit from American Powertrain, they responded very quickly with an email quote, called them and we walked through the quote making a few changes, good to go. There is a 6 to 8 week lead time. SST may be very good to work with, but they never responded to either of my quote requests. I am looking forward to the overdrive and keeping up with traffic.

That TKX 5-Speed is definitely on my short list of upgrades, if I can bring myself to modify my ‘70 TA that has all of its original parts. I’m assuming that this upgrade is easily reversible ifI wanted to go back to 100% original?

I think the new trans needs no cutting.Your car being a stick shift will be a EZ change, new clutch disc if yours is a 10 spline, shorten drive shaft and maybe a trans X member.Shifter lever if yours won’t work.Tom

I was just talking to Bruce at MDL last weekend at Goodguys and he assured me the new TKO will take 800-ish HP no problem. He stated TKO rates them a bit conservatively, and the fact that they changed the case around internally for a much stronger design but left the rating the same hints at that.

He also told me the Magnum 6 speeds can and have taken upwards of 1200 hp and have had no issues to date at that power level.

I'm not sure why others are having lead time issues. Bruce told me they have about 100 of them sitting on the shelves ready to go. I found that surprising given the fact that everyone else seems to have a supply problem.

I think we may be talking TKX vs TKO. I just talked to American Powertrain a couple of days ago. They just finished filling 150 back orders 2 weeks ago for TKX. Some of those orders were several months old. They will be getting one more shipment this year. We didn't discuss TKOs.

I'm speaking of TKX specifically. When I mentioned TKO's to Bruce he simply said they aren't making them anymore and they don't have any of them in stock, but he has 100 TKX's sitting on the shelf.

Apt told me it would be a 10 to 12 week wait on my TKX but today I got a email that it shipped. Only 8 weeks.
