Long branch manifolds on 72 Grandville?
I've been trying to find out if the Long Branch manifolds will fit a 72 Grandville?
No I know they supposedly fit up to 70 but I can't imagine they changed that much between 70 and 72 to where they wouldn't fit but I don't know for sure? obviously there's limited options I mean if there's a little bit of clearance in here and there I need to do not a big deal I'm just curious if anyone has done it, thanks Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk

The answer, of course, is "probably". Call these guys up:

They should, my 71 Catalina came with a set of 1970 GTO D port ram air 3 manifolds on it (police car, came from the factory with them) I replaced them with Reproduction manifolds a few years ago due to the originals repeatedly cracking. They fit just fine.
I do not know if the F-Body or Round port versions would fit though.

The design of full size cars changed totally in 1971, so there's probably little comparison between a 1970 and a 1972. You may want to ask the question in the 67-79 Big Pontiac Tech section - I seem to recall there are one or two people there who have been modifying 1971-1976 cars.

Stuart is right...the '71-up B-bodies had a chassis redesign that moved the power steering box further ahead of the engine crossmember ala' A and 2nd gen F-body chassis layouts. The '70 and earlier had their steering boxes behind the front engine crossmember similar to the 1st gen F-bodies both employing the long branch exhaust manifolds. Without a doubt the A & 2nd gen F-body Ram Air exhaust manifolds will fit the '71-up B-body chassis, however, it looks like there may room for the long branch manifolds (maybe without the need for grinding?) as the engine sits further back on the crossmember than the A & 2nd gen F-bodies. It certainly would be beneficial to borrow a pair of each to trial fit to confirm.
The 3 non-labeled pics are of a '68 Catalina 428HO with the long branch manifolds and the rear-ward power steering box from the crossmember. The later Ram Air exhaust manifolds will not fit on the driver-side of '70 & earlier B & F-bodies as the steering box is occupying the same space as the rear dumps of the manifold. That is why I stated the 1970 GTO Ram Air III manifolds fit well and were original equipment on my 1971 (very nearly the same as a 1972) Catalina Freeway Enforcer.

If the steering linkage is behind the front wheels they should work but if the linkage is in front of the front wheels then it's going to be a challenge. If you can weld or have a buddy who can its not too much. of an issue.
I wish Douglass exhaust was still in business. They sold the whole exhaust system from beautiful headers made in house to super nice tail pipes.. All turns were mandrill bends.. |

I don't have any actual documentation on the Ram Air III manifolds being installed at the factory, but I also do not have any documentation on the Cady 13" front Disc's or the 12" rear drums being original. I beleive the car was built with standard Pontiac B body parts, and then sent somewere to have the Freeway enforcer package parts installed. There is a 10 week delay in the PHS dates between the build date and the delivery date.
No one seems to know exactly what was done to the 23 Freeway enforcers built. I have not been able to find a 71 Police equipment brochure that spells it out exactly. But all those parts were on the car when I bought it, I am the 3rd owner after the original Police Department. I supose it is possible the 2nd owner swapped all the parts?
