As to customer service and callbacks:

I do not need to buy from any of the companies listed (all my projects are done, and too old to start another one); so do not know if this applies to any specific company, but:

I have found that, if a company has "online chat" available from their website, the folks that do the chatting KNOW what they are talking about. MUCH better chance of having good results with the chatters than with the 800 number folks.

Jon.

The only thing automotive related I've struggled with getting was an edelbrock billet throttle bracket. That was way back in september-november of last year, had to ultimately cancel the order.

Otherwise I haven't really been having issues on the automotive front.

I did have issues with getting garage door parts to complete a high lift door conversion.

Yep, all this hit me late last year when I finally got around to doing a car for myself. Figures. Probably the last one I'll do for myself for a while till this all settles down.
Thankfully, after months of waiting for just about everything, I think I finally have everything here to finish the car.

Delays on everything have slowed progress on my Firebird project, but stuff is finally starting to roll in. Frank said main studs and sleeves for my aluminum block are finally available after months of waiting. Late winter/early spring I ordered Recaro seats, AAW wiring kit, Digital Dakota Gauges, Legendary package tray & visors, all should be showing up in the next few weeks. I have lots of small stuff on backorder from various places, but nothing I can't find used on eBay if I have to. Was told at least 40 weeks for door panels from Legendary, so I had to find a good local upholster who could do them.

Waiting on Frank's custom head studs for my Ali block, supposed to be available in August.

* Door latches
* Seat Foam
* Dashpad resto
* Assembled door panels
* Some plastic parts, like side mirror pads
* Body seals/rubber
* Certain kinds of hardware (fasteners)

There's more, but that's what I can remember at the moment. I have multiple orders waiting on BOs.

I've gotten to the point now that if something isn't in stock and ready to ship, I don't order it. I'm tired of my money sitting in limbo for stuff on backorder. The project can just sit and wait, I'll move on to something else.
I've gotten to postpone backodering like you for same reasons. On one part I did backorder, when it arrived 6 months later, a friend had alresdy sold me the part when cleaning out his garage. When the backodered part arrived later on, it dumbfounded me until I remembered ordering it so many, many moons before. Good advice above^.

I finally finished my 72 Lemans sport convertible frame off restoration with the exception of replacing the top. Top is good, but back window is plastic and foggy. Ordered a new top and glass back panel from The Convertible Top Guys. Was told on 6/28 it would be 4-8 weeks (I was thinking initially several months). Got an email yesterday (7/20) saying it's being delivered (3 weeks wait). Surprised me.

I've been waiting on an engine pulley set from RARE since April. Also was waiting on a pair of oversized exhaust manifolds from them for an equally long time, but decided to throw in the towel and go with Doug's headers when I saw they were back in stock at Summit a few days ago. I've got another big order of parts on tap soon, and I'm somewhat anxious to see how much of it will be on backorder.

I also had to wait a few months for an alternator bracket, and the dash grab bar lucite insert (which was garbage and I won't be using anyway...).

So yeah, it's a difficult time right now. I'm just thankful I got as much of my project done as I did before things got so bad.

Currently 8-9 weeks for the SMI 800cfm Qjet that we ordered for a 467 we are building. JET Performance said they would ship me one the same day, but after doing my research, and reading the reviews on the JET Qjet, I'm so happy we went with SMI instead.

Both good body fiberglass manufacturers are 4 months out. VFN and Glasstek.

Wheel Vintiques 15 inch Rally 1's (both 7 and 8 inch wide) and the trim rings. I've had a set of the trim rings on order since May 2020.

My best one isn't really applicable to this thread, but a few (4-5-6?) years ago I ordered a Delphi 600 steering gear. Took a year and a half to get it.

With anything beyond what they can read on a computer screen you need to get at least to tier 2. Often asking to speak to a supervisor helps but they are often co-located with the script kiddies. Often an accent gives things away.

To really find out anything you need to reach a "specialist", often an engineer, but many systems are designed for you not to reach a specialist, questions can only be submitted. Your only hope is to make the question sufficiently specific to need an expert and request a call back. Caller-ID is great.

The point is that the specialists/engineers are usually working on things to make the company money and not to waste their time (often 10x the script kiddie pay) on a cost center like a service desk.
(let's just say that is why my web site is my phone extension - after a number of years of always answering the phone that way...)

Back in the day I had a rolodex of people mostly at suppliers & competitors who actually knew something. Worth its weight in platinum.

ps have spent a lot of time trying to find a contact at Yazaki with no luck so far. In this case I tend to broadcast for help even in unlikely places.
Butler still providing great customer service but alot of out of stock stuff
