I have been experiencing intemittent bogging when I whack the throttle on the 3rd yellow. This, of course, never happens in time trials. It always happens later elimination
rounds. Last weekend I was getting consistent 60 footers of 1.64 to 1.67. In the 2nd round of elimims, big time bog--2.11 60 ft. The air didn't change that much from 1st to 2nd round. The car never misses a beat in the burnout box but sometimes at the launch---puke, sputter go--2.5 sec 60 ft--loose round. Anyone else had to solve this problem? Please help so I know what to try first.

Tell us a little more about your combination. What size engine, Type and size of carb etc. Sounds like your footbraking. is this correct?

Well, "It's a quadrajet" will be the first three words, I'd wager.

if it's a quadrajet tighten the sec. springs a bit and insulate the carb from the intake. the problem will disapear . if its a carb problem that is. mike

I agree that Holley is a better carb than a Q-jet for all out performance. A q-jet can be a better carb for the street though. With the small primaries it will get better mileage. I went 11.80's in my LeMans before going to a Holley and it didn't bog at all, in fact it was very responsive and had excellent 60's. Fact is with proper mods and tuning a q-jet can perform very well. Super stockers go low 10's high 9's with q-jets and big heavy cars. I prefer a Holley mostly because I think they are easier to tune and I understand them more.

Found the problem--squirters too small. Opened up from .029 to .034--hesitation gone. Thanks, guys. Eddy

I foot brake also and was having a similar problem. It was the float level. I adjusted the float and the bog was gone.

I need to retroact some information for all you guys that responded to this post. I tried my darndest to post but the system wouldn't let me until day before yesterday.
Anyway, here it is: I run a 469 with 16 heads with a Holley 850 dp atop a Torker with a 2" adapter. I use a mild Comp Hyd Roller, BME Aluminum rods and Ross pistons. I foot brake my 76 GP and power is through a TH400 with a 3800 stall Continental,to a 9" Ford with a 4.10 locker. Thanks again for your responses. Oh by the way Tim, the float level was the first thing I thought of too.

I'll be boggin' down the Grove track on Sunday. Curious to see how the Q-Jet does without the Primary choke plate. An otherwise great running street carb&combo until I removed the Primary Choke plate. Now suspecting that the idle went to pot & the plugs picked up some carbon. As if I'm running rich. Probably will bring the choke plate along to the track for re-install for performance check.
