Default Jeff Verdi at Winterfest this past weekend

Jeff,
It was great seeing your cars in North Carolina this weekend. I didnt get a chance to see how you finished. During time trials you beat the 71 Chevelle wagon that has won this event for the past two years. Great Job.

Is that a weekend event?

How is it?

Swap meet, car show, and racing?
Thanks for the info.

Its a 2 day event they have held in Kinston for 21 years. Its in January and is usually the only show in town. No Swap meet or show just racing. This year they had over 400 cars. Its a old track thats been in continuous use since the early 60's. Its a true survivor. Ronnie Sox, Arnie, Platt, and even Richard Petty matched race here. It got into the night because of a bad wreck Saturday. Maryland racer Marty Martin broke a axle in his 67 Chevy II at the end of his run. It locked the rear end up and the car went air borne while doing about 5 rolls. He only had a lap belt and came partially out of the car before it stopped when the door blew off. He was life flighted from the track. Last word we heard was he was going to make it.

Greg,thanks for the post.

Well,I didn't do very well, but did put on quite the wheelie show for the crowd. We got 1 time shot on Saturday and I ran 6.27 with a 100ft long wheelstand.I dial a 6.26,I'm .007 on the tree and pulled the shifter from 1st to 3rd and wasted that pass.My opponent was also .007 and he easily won that one.
No time shot on Sunday.I dial a 6.31.I'm .006 to Alan Glatt's .014(the wagon),I drive the stripe and go a 6.32 for the win.Second round,I changed my delay box and must have missed it..040 on the tree to my opponents .014.He's dead on with a .004 and I run a 6.28 on a 6.27 dial.I was set for a .015 light and running the 6.28...I couldn't have beat him anyway. That's racing.

On Sunday, someone close to the family told us that Marty was walking around and talking to his family at the hospital. He had surgery on one arm that was broke in the crash and he had a couple of deep cuts on his face.He said he didn't remember the crash, but also said he wouldn't race anymore.
We were pitted just after the finish line and saw the entire wreck. He is a very, very lucky man.
