The exhaust looks like a cobbled up mess.

Pretty sure we've seen this one before, but worth a revisit. 69 Trans AM 4speed at $180K in Texas. If I could jump in the wayback machine in 1969, I would order this car above all others. It's amazing.

69 Firebird 400HO in NY at $5K with a reserve. Originally from CA with the very desirable black/yellow CA plates. This is what a frame off looks like when you start with a rust free car.

That is a super nice car with high-quality work and parts to make it look so good.

You lived in CA... what is so special about the black plates? Are they just "period-correct" or were they something "unique" or "custom"? Does CA let you register a car with them today?

Yes to all the above. The black plates were available from 63 to 69 and have come to signify the 'Sixties' in California.

Starting in 1963 California plate issue is for the lifetime of the vehicle. So if your car was initially registered from 63 to 69 it is possible to still use your original black plates as well as the blue and the white plates in later years
California also allows owners of 56 to 69 vehicles to purchase a set of black or yellow background plates (which were available from 56 to 62), for registration purposes as long as they are clear in the system.

The third option is to buy the updated Black plates. The font is slightly different from the originals and the black background is reflective, but they can also be personalized. A yearly fee tacked on to your registration.

Other states are jumping on the bandwagon. Oregon sells the blue 'Pacific Wonderland' plates popular in the early sixties.

But it's truly a "California Thing" lol.

Beautiful color combo on that one. The vinyl top looks killer on it.

Did you catch the incorrect radio? AM/FM with short chrome buttons, likely came from full-size Pontiac. Very nice car. I like the simple elegance of the non-console 4-speed but I'd prefer the Custom trim.

Mad knowledge in the above. You're absolutely correct, in that the black/yellow plates confirm the car came from California and is probably rust free.

$3800 or best offer. California location...might be a good one for the right person. Car doesn't look too bad in the limited number of photos provided.

70 4 speed GTO Judge in Alabama at $15K with a reserve. Looks like most of it's there, but the engine is out of a 78 T/A and there's extensive rust. Paperwork says it originally had a Sandalwood cordova top. Seems like an odd color combo. If the stickers are original, they had lime green accents, which seems odd on a red car?

I'll bet that was an eye-popping combo back in the '70s. I'd prefer the black top myself.

69 Firebird in NJ at $1500 with a reserve. Lots of potential in this project car. No engine/trans, but the front fenders and quarters have been replaced. Looks like good bones.
