Default Help me buy new belts and hose

I'd like to buy new alternator and PS belts, as well as lower radiator hose. But it ain't so easy.

Engine was originally mid 70s 400. Radiator is aftermarket. I think my lower pulley is 6" (I will double check later).

How do I go about buying parts? No markings on current parts and the auto parts stores around here only know how to look stuff up by year/make/model/engine. (Especially on Sunday).

Any suggestions based on my info and pics?

PS. The engine bay is looking better these days. 👍 Oh, and yes, I'll be relocating the fuel line.

I should add that the radiator side of the hose is 1.75" ID.

Is this part right? It's from a 1967 GTO:

ACDELCO 22000M**
{#88907929}*Professional|Molded; 1-3/4" x 18"

Looks like I have some part numbers on the belts I'll try to read later. PS belt might be ACDELCO 15525**[http://www]*
{#88934354}*Professional|Standard; 13/32" x 53-1/8"
Fan and Power Steering; w/ Air Conditioning

Default belts

I did the timing cover/pulley swap on mine to get the faster water pump pulley setup.
I set the alt and power steering at middle of take up range. then used old belts once cut to
gauge how much longer of a belt needed. It got me very close measurement of belt length.
My local NAPA guy understood what and why I was doing this and said if a belt was too long/short they would just swap it out. Just don't run the car with it on.
The guys at my local NAPA are good like this and why I never complain about cost.

And the power steering belt is wider then alt!!!!!!!

Yup, hopefully I can find a parts store willing to take the time that's open today. Napa is closed here Sunday

The Pontiac catalogs don't have the belts nor hoses, what's up with that? Was a good thing i had a used belt collection.

You can still buy a coil of Heater hose in each size.

I found part numbers after all. But the comment about PS being wider than Alt belt, well, my old ones are the same.

DAYCO 15525 & 15470 for PS & Alt respectively.

EDIT: I just cross referenced these PN on Rock Auto with the ones I put above and it lists the applications correctly, meaning it says I'm using the correct alt and PS belts. So they are not different sizes, at least not in every application.

15525 is:
Outside Circumference 53.07
Effective Length (in) 52.50
Top Width (in) 0.44
Angle 36

15470 is:
Outside Circumference 47.57
Effective Length (in) 47
Top Width (in) 0.44
Angle 36

68 FIREBIRD is right about the ps belt being bigger than alt. Went through this recently and several auto parts list the small belts as correct but they aren't. Small belts sit to far down in the pulley and are to narrow just like yours is in the picture. Got stuck on a napa belt like this because i had all ready ran it. They will squeal alot easier also. Got the correct one at autozone i think. Top of ps belt should be flush with top of pulley.

Ok, so what's the correct part number for the correct PS belt? I'm heading to the store now. 😩

Yeah, the NAPA guys have always been good about working with odd sizes and requests. It builds loyalty from us users and the street rod guys know where to go, too.

Take your old one with you. If the new one is not wider then go to another auto parts cause it is not right even though the part number says it is.

But what's the right PN? That's my question.because the one I have is listed in rock auto as the right one yet it's the same width as the other belt.

Can someone measure the WIDER PS belt maybe?

Try 15505 at autozone. Duralast but compare length to older one.

That one is the same width and about 2" shorter.

How wide should the PS belt be? I'll try and search through belt specs if I have the width

1/2 inch wide is correct width for PS belt. 3/8 is the small belt that isnt correct. Alternator belt is 3/8 though.

"15" series belts are 3/8" width. The "17" series are 7/16" wide. In a number like 15525, the 15 signifies 3/8" wide, and the 525 signifies 52.5" long. If you want a 52.5" long belt, 7/16" wide, you would get a 17525. Gates does it a little different as the 3/8" belt is a "7" series, while the 7/16" is a "9" series. So they would be 7525, or 9525. Some brands[maybe NAPA] use the same codes in reverse. Like a 52515, or 52517.

If you get a length that doesn't quite fit, remember, 1/2" longer on a belt is a lot. So go easy if you need to up the length, or shorten it.

Then you can pretty much guess how much longer/shorter belt you need. Once you determine that, buy 2 and keep one in the trunk.

So how does this look?

Old then new...

http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...226_135817.jpg

http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...226_135744.jpg

Of course, I wanted to get rid of the ribs, so if these sizes are right, I'll have them order gates.

Oh, and I went into a car quest I'd never been in before and found a young man who was willing to help. Took my radiator hose and found one that matched.
