Will try to answer, & will answer this question as if it was asked in the '70-72 A-body Tech forum.
For one, am making it common practice to NOT answer questions in the Street forum, just too much BS.

Early Muncie 4spds originally came with the small 27 spline output shaft & one of several styles of matching rear tailshaft housing (5 bolt hole bosses in a W pattern). This style of Muncie 4spd, when equipped with a factory Hurst shifter, required a cast aluminum shifter mounting plate with mtg holes, fairly tight. A reproduction of that mounting plate has been avail through catalogue vendors for near 35 years.

Late Muncie 4spds ('71-74 usage) came with a large output shaft & matching rear tail housing with 3 spread out bolt hole bosses. The position of these mtg bosses, required the used of a stamped steel mounting plate for the shifter. a reproduction has been avail for the last 15 years. Late Muncie 4spd's design allowed the use of the same driveshaft as was used in same vehicle when equipted with a short tail Turbo 400 & the medium length ('67-74) Turbo 400 driveshaft yoke.

In the case of an aftermarket gearset Muncie 4speed, built off either an aftermarket SuperCase, or off an original Muncie case, the choice of which mounting plate will come down to what tailshaft & what style tailshaft housing was used in the build.

and

I have an answer also .......... similar to pinions ,,, but just didnt want to post after reading that

if you cant look at your tranny now and compare the mounting bosses between old and new ...

we are just guessing ...

Hi Mr. Coslanzetta, If you post a photo of the new transmission I'll try and answer your question. I would like to see the side of the tailshaft housing to which you would attach to it the mounting plate and then the shifter. Is your plan to use a stock original Hurst shifter for this car? The one with the tall round chrome stick.

If you have the 32 spline tail shaft with the 3 bolt holes like OPH was talking about, you need Hurst shifter plate 195-7773. I attached a picture of my M22 with a 32 spline tail housing for reference. If you use the Hurst plate I gave you the numbers to, your shifter will come out in the factory location.
