Default How much do you guys hate this?

I figure this won't be well received, but I kinda like it. (not sure I like it enough to try it, though) Anyone else try anything like it?

Look down at the GTO restoration pictures, and take a look at the frame...particularly the color.

I sorta like the idea of restoring my frame in a different color. It wouldn't be so bright.....Something more tasteful...but shows off the work a bit. I doubt I'll stray from gloss black - but it's an interesting idea

Thoughts?

P.S. I think we can all agree that the interior looks horrible.

Choice of seat trim is hideous. The engine painted red is different, not my first choice. The wheels look good, along with the red GTO script in the grill. The frame being a bright red along with the gas tank straps and pumpkin cover no thanks. It is easy to see the theme, red and black, usually looks good together, but in this case the red is not doing justice to such a classy car.

Friend of mine painted his frame gray. It goes withthe theme of the car. Im pretty partial to black though. A well finshed frame in black is beautiful

I've always tried to think what needs accentuated. The frame is a necessary part of the car, but is it really good to look at it? It should blend in as much as possible. The suspension components can be a different color, but that's it. You still gotta be careful.

Under the hood, you only want the motor to stand out. It is like a diamond in a jewel box. When you open it, you want to see the diamond and that's it. Not the windsheild wiper motor, wiring (colored split loom), heater box/motor, etc. It is best to make all these items blend in so when somone looks under the hood, just the 'diamond' stands out.

A good friend of mine had a beautiful s10 blazer a few years back. It had many body mods, bagged, shaved handles, custom paint/graphics, etc. It was in several magazines , won several shows & was a very nicely done blazer. However the body was painted a candy red & the frame was silver. It looked so bad from a distance because most of the frame was visible along the lower rocker panel. It made the body appear as if it weren't really that low, yet the truck was on the ground. If the frame were body color, or black even, it would disappear & make the truck look even lower.

It is a matter of opinion, but IMO that car would look much better with a black frame, lower ride height, smaller tires, and the motor painted the original silver-blue, with chrome valvecovers. Other than that, it is a nice looking car. The swaybar could be red, as well as the shocks & springs, but that is about it. The black paint on the body looks great. It needs the trim rings on the grilles, too.

Exactly what I'm questioning
In the end, i'll probably decide that it's too big of a gamble to try, and just paint gloss black.

At best, I'll try painting crossmember/rear/suspension in an interesting color

I agree with most of the above. The frame becomes the "focal point" rather than being a nice detail.

Yeah, seeing the body is black the frame stands out too much, and detracts from the great looking black body. Now if the body was red it wouldn't be all that bad with a red frame.

Interior is fugly, as is the red valve covers. But each to their own. I think the flames and red on my GTO are ugly but alot that's seen it like it. Besides, I can't afford to have it repainted for awhile, so I'll have to live with it for now.

I personally would never make a custom GTO but thats just my opinion.
I think its fugly but a man has a right to do whatever he wants with his own car

To each there own.

I always liked tube/drag cars with a accent paint, but not a street car.

Not everyone likes my dual quads coming out of the hood, but I do. And that is want is important to me.

Pics? Dual quads are much cooler than red accents on a black car.

To each their own for sure, but if something is tastefully done, than others will like it.

When I first did the 'vette wheels on my 454SS 10 years ago, no one liked it. People just downright trashed me for doing it. I liked it & that's the way I left it. Now I get positive comments all the time with it. Hell last year on the Power Tour, there was about 20 people who wanted to duplicate it. When we had just gotten to the first stop in Cleveland there were 2 guys following me to my parking space to get a better look and take pics.

When someone says they don't like something on my cars. I think " I did not do any of this for your liking, I did for my liking. I am glad, all 66 or 67 GTO"s, do not look the same, our cars are a reflection on who we are, as individuals.

6 Grrrs, per your request.

There is also a couple of others that like dual quads. (If you look real hard, you can see a GTO in the background !)

There is a big difference between a hole in your hood and a red frame and custom interior
I really like your 66 with the dual quads! The 2 young women arent too bad either.

GTOMike1967,

You have good taste in cars and women. (lol...)

You have to love it when they come up to your car and ask for a picture. The funny part about the picture is my wife took the photo's. A couple on the girls camera, and a couple on my camera. ;-)

Yes they are, and it is a pain to keep clean.

I wanted my engine compartment to POP when the hood was raised. When I had them chromed over 20 years ago, you didn't see many, now I have seen a couple just in my area.

Uh, the red frame is bad and that interior is hideous.

I'll pass.
