I worked on a 64 Goat several years ago and when we ripped out the trunk floor the full VIN was most definitely stamped into the top of the frame rail on the driver's side. It cleaned up well and was plainly visible. Regrettably I did not take any pics while the trunk floor was out. This year I dismantled my 64 convertible and expected to find the same thing, but there was absolutely nothing there on that car. Both of those 64's were built in Pontiac, MI.

I also have a 67 convertible with a wasted trunk floor and I pulled the floor up over the frame rail and used a sander to get the rust and crud off the frame and you could just faintly make out a couple of numbers on it; the frame had apparently gotten thinner over the years due to rust and it had taken the VIN off with it.

...about to take my frame off, I'll see if I can find any numbers and take a picture of 'em
I'd like to know exactly where they are, if i'd like to look on other cars at some point

I think it's not so rusty...that they might be there

That area of my frame where the VIN is located is rusty,I could tell there is something there but I haven't cleaned it up yet.

Not so. I've owned the 64 convertible for 34 years. It has been garaged nearlly all of its life and it is virtually rust free. The frame cleaned up nicely. There was absolutely nothing there. I even went over the frame with a magnifying glass....nothing; nada; not a trace even. I bought the car directly from the original owner. He was an accountant who kept very detailed records on everything he ever had done to the car. The frame was never replaced. Interestingly, the part number and date code of the frame are visible on the SIDE of the frame rail near the rear of the driver's side. I taped those areas off when I had the frame powder coated to keep them visible.

I know the feeling.

I was really disappointed when there was nothing there. Hopefully mine is a rare exception.

My 66 has it on the driver's side frame rail in the trunk area and the same with the donor car. I think it was on the top or near the top on the outside facing.

My 67 has it on the frame rail behind the driver's side rear wheel and in the trunk lip under the weatherstripping about 6"s down the passenger side channel.
As you can see, the second pic shows a series of indentations in the trunk channel. But, when I took a shot from the inside of the trunk you can tell they are a partial VIN(Sorry they are fuzzy). The same as on the frame rail.

Those numbers in the trunk weather channels (usually found on both sides) are not VINs. They can be very difficult to read unless sand blasted clean. I've researched these numbers throughout the vehicle. They're simply part numbers along with date codes. Every piece of sheet metal has them.

Yup, unfortunately they are just vendor/plant codes. They are on Chevelles from the same era and have caused MUCH confusion..

Default Stamped numbers

Both of the 1/4's on my GTO have a number (7372317) stamped on the top under the deck lid. The deck lid it self has a stamp ZX3623369. Not even close to the VIN and I don't know what they mean either.

Bill, I'm betting that the first 7 in the quarter panel is actually the letter Z which indicates 37 is the week that quarter was stamped. The deck lid was stamped the 36th week. An educated guess would be that your 1967 A-body was built around 9C or 9D 1966.

Take a look at these...Vin on firewall, but what is on the frame (left rear outside). Frame is original.

it looks like the number on the frame is a date code plus prob some plant or factory code

That's not the VIN on the firewall. Look at the driver's hinge pillar for a stainless steel tag. That's your VIN. Compare that to your frame.

Your guess is correct it is a 09D car made in Fremont.
I thought the first stamp was a z but the bottom portion is hard to see, so i guessed 7.
