Default Cant get generator light off.

The generator light is dim when the key is in the off position on my 69 Grand Prix (rally gauges). It had been coming on bright while running but lately it just seems to be dim when not running. I have installed a new alternator and tried 3 different external voltage regulators. When I unhook the 4 wires that connect to the regulator it goes from dim to bright while not running. Installed a new engine wire harness from PY. It starts and runs fine. Any suggestions?

Be sure the key is in the off position & not the accessory position. Older ignitions get worn out & you can pull key out when it's in the accessory position.

If it's a turbo 400, make sure the kick down switch is pluged in on the trasnsmission. If it falls off, it will gound out and cause the alternator light to come on.
