Funny (and bizarre) promo film for the Chevy SS396
This is a really goofy promotional film for the 1966 Chevy SS396, where it is compared to the Ford Fairlane GT and the Pontiac GTO. There's a weird James Bond theme, plus go-go dancers.
Since it's a Chevy promotional film obviously the SS396 wins, but I'm sure it was staged to look that way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQRmwZZqLnU |

Looks like the guy driving the GTO just took his foot out of half way down, had a clear lead and was pulling away.

I bet everyone involved had a blast making that "infomercial". When you look at other old Chevy commercials, how dry and boring they were, this one had to be great fun. I can see it now, " How and the heck can we make this slug of a Chevelle, win this drag race?. Every time we try it, the GTO jumps out to a 3 car length lead in the first 100 ft? OK, I got it . We will launch the three then do an edit after we pull 3 plug wires off the GTO. That should just about do it!"

Very funny and really cool to see the 3 cars brand new. Surprised they let the GTO dog the Chevelle off the line like that

Funny. Pontiac should have made a commercial just like that so we could actually see which one was The Great One

I think Chevy did that for us by having the GTO driver let off the throttle and coast through the second half of the quarter mile so the Chevelle could finally catch up and eek out a "victory"!

Tnx for the link... made me laugh.
In about 1974, I destroyed my 68 Chevelle and bought a 66 Fairlane GT... I loved the Fairlane but it was NOT fast. So they got that one right! |

There were cars in the vid? All I saw was a go-go dancer.

I'd argue that while the Chevelle domination was slightly exaggerated, but it wasn't far from the truth when comparing a base GTO to a base SS396. The SS396 ran a lot stronger than the 325hp rating would have you believe.
