Default 55 years ago -

55 years ago today my GTO was born.

Happy birthday, lil GTO.

Interestingly enough - right after we picked the car up the UAW went on strike. And - the UAW is on strike today as I write this.

That's really interesting about the fit and finish to get it out of the factory! Do you have any pics of the handprints or the "hasty" work? Makes for an even cooler story.

The paint anomalies are a little hard to capture in a photo. They are basically a super concentrated area of laquer checking, in an obvious pattern.

Some of the other stuff would show up in a picture (carpet trimmed too short, seat covers not installed correctly, poor fender/door gaps). I finally fixed the folded over headlight bezel gasket after I got tired of seeing it.

Happy Birthday Little GTO. I remember reading that John Delorean instituted an extra group of final inspections for the 1965 model year just for Pontiac cars. The press made a big deal about it. I wonder if that was a direct result of poor fit and finish at strike time, or after the strike was over, or just because of the incredible record volume of cars they were making those years. Interesting twist to the story of your car.

Thanks, Keith. And 55 more, at least. I never get tired of you sharing the '65 with us.....I'm sure many others agree, too.
