Default Royal Oak announces plans for vacant property...

...located at 400 N Main St.

Yep - that's the old Royal Pontiac location.

Keith, The proposed new hotel is one of the ugliest new buildings I've seen. What's up with that?

Qustion 2... How much federal funds are being spent for revialization in this area?

Not a local yocal car show supporter, but seems like those that are into that kind of thing would seize on the opportunity to have a big Pontiac show on the premises, if it could be arranged, before the wrecking ball arrives.

Gotta question the demand for such a hotel in that area. I suppose its appropriate that the figures in the artist's rendering look like ghosts...

It would certainly be filled up next week.

On a related note, do the cars look like Pontiac G8's?

Can't comment on the appearance; it looks like every other new building I've seen lately.

I am not aware of any federal funds in Southeast Michigan (even in Detroit). If anyone has any specifics I'd be interested to know. In this case I assume the 5 private developers are pony-ing up the funds.

There has been discussion on several occasions about one last hurrah at the old Royal site but it never has come to pass.

Wow and talk about a coincidence that a GTO would be there are took that pic!

It would at lease be nice if they had some Royal Pontiac related memorabilia in the lobby.

Cool looking property. Yea too bad that hotel blocks the view BUTT the hotel appears to provide much needed shade during a useful part of the day.

Default Royal Oak announces

When the GTOAA convention was held in Atlanta(late 80's/early 90's), one of the scheduled events was a silent auction. One of the items being auctioned was a brick represented as being from the Royal Pontiac dealership after it was demolished. I seem to recall there were possibly two of these bricks offered. I won the auction on one of these bricks, and Jim Wangers autographed it for me, writing something like "From the original Royal Pontiac dealership." Now you guys are showing me the old Royal buildings are apparently still standing, so I'm wondering what the hell did I actually buy at this auction all these years ago. Did one or more of the original Royal buildings get demolished years ago , but others were left standing? Keith, I figured you would know the history, so what gives? Maybe I've misunderstood the above posts.

Terry, you got snookered by Wangers.....that brick came from the outhouse
behind Ted's Drive In. No, just kidding! The buildings in the picture are only twenty
years old. You will note that none of them look like the Royal Pontiac buildings in the old
photos from the sixties. The brick you have came from the side of the showroom of the old
building from the wall behind the plate glass window front facade. Your brick is not a fake!
Please don't hit Wangers up side the head with it........Winston

Cool

Like any building occupied for any length of time it's safe to say there were changes to the building over the years. keep the image fresh.

Agree. The building was remodeled at some point and you got a brick from prior to the remodel.

Sidebar: I go past the old Fisher Body building when traveling to and from the Dream Cruise. On one of the evenings (Friday, perhaps) there was a couple in a white Fiero and they were loading something into the engine compartment of their car.

At first I thought it was hot dogs and buns or something and I thought "why are they putting those in the engine compartment instead of the front?".

Then I realized they were bricks. They were reaching through the fence to grab bricks from where the building had been demolished.

The building where all three of my Pontiacs were built, as well as their Fiero.

Seems like a good idea, now that I think about it.
