Look what popped up on BaT today...
Saw this Firebird mentioned in previous posts and was surprised to see it for sale on Bring a Trailer this morning. Will be interesting to see where the bidding goes...

I remember that car!!! It was featured in HOT ROD or CAR CRAFT back in the late 70's or early 80's. I also remember thinking, how could someone ruin a car like that. JMTC

The car was a local Detroit area car. Forget the owners name at the time but was sad that he had butchered up the body.
He raced the car a few times at the SCCA Waterford hills club track. First name was Terry (not sure of the last name). Tom V.

Car has been talked about here, before. I believe for sale at that time. I believe has a Chevy 283 engine, 4 speed. Would be nice if someone would rescue it.
It was on a magazine cover, 70's?

It was a trend for a while back in the 1970s, sort of the predecessor to pro-touring cars. They were mimicking race cars of the period. It was on the cover of Car Craft in 1978; the cover and article are shown in the pictures. It apparently was always a California car, one of the people commenting on it remembers seeing it cruising on Van Nuys Blvd.
Remember that when this one was built it was just an old car, long before people were as concerned about originality. If a person wanted to restore it back to original the flares could be removed, but personally I'd leave it as is (except for the engine, that small block Chevy has to go.  ) it's representative of a time in history.
