Default Paul Deesen 1930-2019

I am sad to report that Paul Deesen passed away on December 29, 2019.

Paul was a designer responsible for the front and rear ends of the 1961 and 1962 full size Chevrolets. In 1963 he moved to the Pontiac studio where one of the features he championed was the unique concave rear window for the '63 Grand Prix. He designed the original GTO emblem in '64, and the sides and front end of the 65 Grand Prix, and was the originator of the red line tire. In later years he was responsible for the interior of the distinctive GMC Motorhome and the exterior of the S/T Blazer utility.

Paul was a member of the Widetrackers Chapter of POCI and a good friend of the late Eric White.

Services will be held on Saturday, January 4th in Lapeer Michigan.

He designed the original GTO emblem? He was basically an icon in Pontiac history in general and GTO history in particular. A legend has passed. Rest in Peace.

Imagine the excitement on-the-job when showing such ideas to DeLorean, and having Wangers get all hyped-up. Must have been a rodeo at times.

The name sounded familiar to me besides the obvious. Sure enough, I looked at all my "Post-It" notes above my computer screen and there it was, a "Post-It" note with Paul's name and number on it. It turns out that I spoke to him recently about some parts which turned into talk about his interest in my prototype and a lot of Pontiac history. Wow, sometimes you just never know.

RIP Paul

I had a half dozen of the S10/15's and mini Blazers - always liked the styling and size. RIP, Paul.

Heck of a legacy, RIP. I've long admired his sketches posted on deansgarage.com.
