Cadillacs of the later 70’s had a plastic trim piece in there that disintegrates over time. That’s my guess.

I’ve driven by that GTO in Crockett for years on the way to my in laws. I think the guy had a green 67-68 bird in the yard along with a bunch of other cars. I stopped once but didn’t find anyone

Does this mean you're OK with that fender mounted mirror? This Pontiac is
one of the very rare few exceptions where I think a rear view camera could
be useful. Extremely useful. I suspect that awful roof box adds some much
needed structural support? But it'd sure be nice to see a clean looonnnggg
roof. Bodymen and painters might disagree.
