Much easier to clean with no gas going through the bolt. .308 is certainly an improvement over .556 except for cost.
I never knew that rifle was out there. I like what I see. Pricey, but definitely cool. Looks like it's all about TCB, and not a bunch of tricked out bling.

I'm late to this party but I like 98 or FN bolt action Mausers with very nice wood. 03A3 sporters with very nice wood work for me too.

I'm feeling that! This week we just put 30 rounds through a Yugo M24/47, which I think were Belgian made. I love the wood, and I prefer it a little dark and old looking. Some guys out there are steam cleaning the wood parts back to a light "as new" color. Not my thing.

My wife was out junking last week, and bought an M1 Garand stock for $20, in pretty good shape. Little did she know that I have a complete Garand showing up tomorrow morning!

I tend to agree. I like the as-born military look. I'd love to have an '03, but that will have to wait for the future. Prices on milsurp stuff is getting too insane.

I just watched a vid about pre and post 64 Model 70's. There is a strange allure toward bolt guns - precision machining, simplicity, kinda like fine jewelry that goes BANG.

Monday is Gun-day!

M1 Garand. Springfield Armory, January of 1945 date on the receiver. Looks to have been rebarreled during 1965 by some engraving on the receiver inside the stock. Barrel is from 10/64. Muzzle is a 1+, throat at 2+. This should be a good shooter. The wood on the stock looks beat up from being stacked in a crate (op rod gouges on left side), but I can live with that!

I think something was scratched into the stock a long time ago. There is a 4-6" part that received some focused sanding efforts followed by a heavy restain, maybe in the 60's. It would be fun to know the story.

Yup. That's the Ruger way. I couldn't be happier with it.

Squid,

Another one for you, https://pof-usa.com/firearms/p308-edge/

A fellow PYer has one. I shot it and it fires beautifully. I don't know if he wants to add to this but he may. He has fired my weapon also.

I am officially out of room by at least a couple of fun sticks. In need of bigger and/or more gun cabinet. Latest addition, with parts from Brownell's, etc., built off a 20" rifle length PSA kit originally with A3 flat top upper. Added A1 upper, handguards, grip, and extra M1 sling I had around the house.

My wife just got her pistol permit ... in NY state no less ... only took eight months (sarcasm). Got her a Ruger Mark IV Competition model as her first pistol.

I'm not a gun guy but with that being said I do have a small collection. I still have my first rifle. A Remington 22 bolt action I received for my 10th birthday. It is and always has been my plinker. I remember riding around the small town in Northern CA I grew up in with the 22 across my handlebars. Constable would see me and ask where I'm shooting today. No hassle, just wanting to know in case something happened. Those were different kind of days.

Most of my active shooting was done in the Navy. As a SeaBee we were required to be qualified on all weapons in our inventory. Assigned to Naval Special Warfare for seven years allowed lots of range time with their fine selection of weapons. When the rest of the Navy transitioned to the 9mm, SEAL teams were operating with HK 45s. I remember one particular rainy, windy day we were out on the small arms range with new, out of the box, HKs. I qualified Expert whereas with the 9mm, I could never get above Marksman. Our Master Chief hated the 9mm. He called it a brick. "You can do more damage throwing this weapon at your enemy than shooting him with it" was his favorite saying.

Now as a civilian I occasionally go out to the desert with my ex-military buddies. They have their ARs and other assorted 'Lightweights' as I jokingly call them. I'm a lever action guy myself. I bring my Browning Model 1886 45/70, Model 94 30-30 and trusty 22 to shoot.
An Ithaca 12 gage that once belonged to my Dad rounds out my small collection. He said it makes an impression on unwanted visitors that come to the door. But that's another story...

Again, not a gun guy, but quite familiar if the need arises.

Wow. Tried to get clever with pic posting, and it failed. I just checked back on the thread to see whassup. What was supposed to appear was an M16A1 clone...
