GM tried to push my old boss into the updating deal also in the late 80's. He told them to poound sand. Since we sold enough special order cars percentage wise, to be in the top 3% of dealers nation wide he got out of the update.

Here are my contributions:
These are from an old Pontiac dealership near Orlando, FL. the building and all it's signs are still there. These pics were taken within the last two monts. I am going back soon now that I have my red line tires on the car. I want to do a black & white version of these photos:

This is not a dealership, but a cool sign no less. This pic was taken this past Aug at the Woodward Dream Cruise. Since then, our Firebird was totalled, hence the reason we now own the 67 LeMans...

What ever you do, have someone Photoshop the Isuzu sign out of the pic. Nice pics!

Funny you would say that. A guy from another Firebird site already did that for me. I'll have to find it. Also, my friend's 65 Tempest was originally bought from this very dealership, we may go there tomorrow and get pics with both cars before they tear it down (which most likely will be very soon)...

I've lived in the area for alomost 3 years now and the place has been empty all that time. I can't imagine that it will remain empty much longer and there has been talk of the city tearing it down very soon!

Thumbs up

I LOVE these Mc Namara shots! Thanks for sharing. A friend of Dads went to the States in the late 70's and offered to get Dad some 'small' parts. He ended up getting them from Mc Namara, we still have the business card 30 something years later. Now thanks to you I can see exactly where they were bought.
When you go back 67 Le Mans, would you mind snapping a few more shots of the entire place please and posting, if it's not too much trouble?
Nice to have in the collection.

Obviously, I too would hate to see that sign torn down and the site redeveloped.
All in the name of progress, of course.

Default Auburn Pontiac on Opdyke east of Pontiac

Was across the street from this dealer on Wednesday. They have 5-7 cars in their lot. I am going again this coming Wed and taking a camera or two. (Wasn't it in Airplane, where the boss newsman said "Alright Men, lets get som pictures!" and all the photographers ran to the wall and tore off the framed pictures"?

I feel like doing that at every dealership i visit. If Auburn's door is open next week, I am going to get some ephemera.........maybe a note pad or some business cards.

Speaking of PMD and Pontiac, Michigan, I visited Camera mart at telegraph and huron (M-59) too. I am tempted to say that half the pictures ever made of Pontiacs were made on film, print paper and with cameras bought at Camera Mart during the last 50 or so years. PMD spent huge buckets of money with them. (worth a visit)

Next time I hope to have a few pix
regards

You were accross the street from which dealership? The one I have pics of? I hope not, as I was there today and there are NO cars and now a new for sale sign is out front. We are going back either tomorrow or saturday to get pics with our cars. We really want to get pics of my friend's 65 Tempest because it was sold at this dealership originally. That sign to really cool aside from the Izuzu junk...

OOPS
Sorry
As a retired Pontiac/GM employee, I still hang out in the Pontiac Michigan area.
On Wednesday, I attempted to visit the Pontiac Salvation Army Thrift Store that I visited since the 60's. It was closed solidly forever since last September. It is amazing that the GM tragedies have even affected the thrift (junk) stores.

BTW this store was the one that kept selling running lawn tractors to my friend at a rate of 4 or more per month and he would take them to his plant and immediately quad his money on every transaction.

I can only wish to get a running deal that good <S>

Sorry to have gotten your hopes up but..............

regards

Ok, here is what used to be Pennington buick in Galveston, now a t-shirt shop, place is real complete, it still has the metal outbuildings in the back yard area and the big glass windows survived up until about 3 years ago, built in 1950.

I've been trying to locate the old Flowers pontiac-cadillac building but haven't run across it yet.

Ok, went back to McNamara Pontiac yesterday and took a few more pics. Also, went to a car show at a brand new, old looking service station that is actually a complex of 3 restraunts and two full bars with live music etc. This place is only 5 mins from my house and is really a nice place for a car show...
