Sorry guys, didn't look at this thread last couple of days....

Muscle Collector; Some people are totally oblivious to whatever car you drive...however most folks with a slight bit of interest in cars and most all kids take notice when you're driving something like this.
Went to a show nearby the other week and drove my '67 Royal tribute while my buddy drove the '71....just about everyone passing us on the freeway had a big smile on their face.
Below are some pics I took that day.

Norton 70, Could be the same car; I bought it here but it had just been imported from California. Without the sport stripes, wing and these wheels.( It had 17" Billet specialties)

I'm jealous on so many levels I don't know where to start! Gorgeous! And, like Mike said, the cars are pretty sweet too!

My 1972 Pontiac LeMans Sport

My grandmother bought this car brand new in 1972 From Packer Pontiac in Miami, Florida. Traded in her 1970 LeMans for it. I now own it.

Here's the car she traded in on it:

Here's me with that car in 1970:

The original color is Cardinal Red.

As for the odd vinyl top... From what I can figure out... the white top was added by the dealership. The PHS shows no vinyl. It was originally vinyl but it now just painted white. I suspect this was a Florida thing. Ever seen another like it? You can see the top was like this the day she brought it home in June of 1972 in this picture:

My Grandmother loved this car and took excellent car of it over the years she had it. She put about 250K miles on the car. It was her only source of transportation from 1972-2002 It has been repainted, but almost everything else is original (even the hubcaps are the originals).

Here she is with it a few years before she passed away:

Here's a shot of me on Christmas morning in about 1981 with the car. I was told to take all the wrapping paper trash out to grandmas car and she was going to take it home and put in her dumpster. When I opened the trunk I found myself a brand new bike.

I have fond memories of this car. in 1972 I drove from Florida to Utah with her in it right after she bought it. I can still remember that none of the kids were allowed in the car till they removed their shoes. Apparently that was a good call seeing as though all the interior is still original. Even the dash pad is still perfect:

remarkable story and thanks for sharing the pictures. About your canopy vinyl roof, GM started doing that on Buick Skylarks as well and is most commonly found with their Sun Coupe retractable webasto style roof. It sure isn't common! You have a very nicely preserved car and I bet its a lot of fun to drive. Is it a 350 or 400?

I never did think of a car before as a "kept it because it meant something". Nice to see you did with grandma sport!

My first car as it went for sale before college started 1979...

Now I remember why I sold it. Because this was the driver that day.....

Still have the tassle in my Judge...

I can't even express how happy I am I ended up with the car. It's positively one car that will never get sold. I've thought a few times about adding Rally wheels to it but always come back to keeping it the way Grandma did. Other than adding a temp gauge, I've changed nothing on the car from how she had it.

What's odd to me about the car was for some reason, in my mind, I've always associated it as an old car. I remember back in about 1983 telling my Grandma that if she ever wanted to sell the car, I wanted to buy it (thinking it was a cool old car). At that time it was only 11 years old.

A lot of history in that car for you. I have a similar vehicle, a GTO in the same color. You have some nice options there. A/C, custom seat belts, custom interior, rocker panel trim, console, almost a decor package from the looks of things. I don't see wheel well trim which would've been part of that package but maybe it was removed when repainted? Anyway, excellent car in lovely colors. Say, when was it built? Can you see what your cowl tag says?

If you look at the picture from when it was new, there was never any wheel well trim. Off the top of my head I don't know the build date. I know the car was purchased on 5/31/72 so probably a few months before that.

Just recently I found with the paper work I got with the car a log book of the gas stops and motels we stayed in on the trip I mentioned before we took in the car in 1972.

Mike:
Great picture! I think I have a picture of that tassle hanging in my car before I bought it from you. Now my tassle, from 1973, hangs on the mirror! The purple sort of clashes with the Jade Green but hey, it sure takes me back to high school - especially with some Led Zeppelin on the 8-Track.
