Reproduction Tri-Power Foam Air Filters
Has anyone found that their reproduction A193C foam filter elements are coming unglued? I bought these about two years ago, but have not even driven the car 1500 miles in that time.
Tonight, I went to do a little inspection of these filters (checking to see how dirty they were) and I found that all three foam elements are coming unglued at their seam. Anyone have the same issue? Can anyone suggest a proper adhesive to fix these? Last edited by propuckstopper; 12-17-2014 at 12:52 AM. |

I never even got my new foams out of the sack they came in before they deglued. I used the 3M spray adhesive and then a magic marker to blacken the seam. I could not find black adhesive at the time.

Strange Coincidence?
I made a call this morning to the vendor I purchased them from. I asked about the glue problem, and they indicated that "it has happened".
When I asked if I could order a new set (and whether they have improved them since my previous purchase) they said they are not available right now. They have no ETA. Sounds to me like these things are more problematic than the vendors care to admit and that they are trying to fix the problem as we speak. Comments? |

I've glued a few that came apart with 3M weatherstrip cement. It is black, so there is no visible glue around the seam.
I remember the original foams being a much smaller cell structure than the repros. One can't help but wonder if the repros filter as well as originals did. If someone could figure out how to duplicate the originals with the AC logo, there would be a huge demand for them. As most of you know, the repros do not have the AC logo embossed as it will not work with the larger-celled foam.

I like chrisp's solution. Personally, been running non-correct looking K&N's on mine since the early '80's. The same ones.
