I found a 64 Cat that has a large glass bottle mounted in the engine compartment. The bottle says it is a Mark V Vapor Unit. It holds at least two gallons of liquid and it seems to be gasoline in the jug. It has a big plastic top with a small nipple that I think a rubber hose would attach to. Has anyone ever seen this set-up and can you tell me what it was used for? I do not think it is a dealer item probably aftermarket. I have pics if interested.

Greg: This board was created especially for you. With your gazillion big Pontiacs, you are best positioned to enlighten the rest of us. Will: please send me some pics. I'm not to old to learn.

I am working with a freind on a 65 2+2, with a 421 tri-power. I just joined the Perf. Yrs forum. I'm looking forward to getting "real" answers to the questions that may come up on this project.
We also have another project. The clasic 65 GTO. But to tell you the truth I realy like the "big" pontiacs best.

If any full size fans would like to see what the factory tachometer for the 65 or 66 Grand Prix looks like I have some really good pics, just EM me and ask. I just bought one and I wanted to show it off.

Will Warner: could that Mark V container be for aftermarket air? I know that Mark V made aftermarket air.

Greg, I just happen to know where to get a big car 4 speed transmission. I think it is a 64 trans, it has the long tailshaft housing. A friend owns it but I am shure he would sell it. The transmission is located in Yuma.

The long tail 4-speeds were used in 65-70 fullsized pontiacs. 62-64 fullsize used short tail 4-speeds.

I was gonna say that but since I'm into Catalinas and GP's I wasn't sure if maybe thebonneville didn't use the longtail tarnnies as the are 7" longer than the Cats and Gp's anyone know for sure

I wasn't shure of the year of the transmission, the guy who has it says he has never seen a Muncie with a long tail shaft. I read somewhere that the big Pontiacs used a Muncie with a long tail shaft but I did not know what years they were avalable.

The Catalina, Grand Prix, Bonneville, are all B bodies or big cars. From 65-70 they used the long tail 4-speed transmissions. I have personally pulled these out of the cars.
The Grand Prix went to the short trans in 69 because of the use of the A-body frame. The last one I had came out of a 68 bonneville.

Stevep: the Mark V bottle seems to have a siphon system attached and appears to be half full of petro. I have not been able to determine what its use was as of yet!!!! But I appreciate the response, someone must know what these were used for!!! Also I just purchased a 65 GP with the 4 speed set-up and it is definetly a long tail!! The car also has 8 lugs, power windows, rear defrost, AM with reverb???? Console 4 speed with all factory gauges including dash mounted tach!!!Barn fresh LOL<LOL been sittin since `77
