Who is Randy Williams?

And was there a toy model made of that wagon?

That Tempest wagon was 100 times more car than that Monte Carlo or GTO will ever be. Some of you people need to go back to your little Corvette world and leave the Pontiacs to the racers and I already know Arnie Beswick agrees with me. Look up Randy Williams.

How did they ever justify putting a Chevy cowl hood on that wagon!

Something had to be done to fit the Super Duty clone engine.

That Holden is a cool car... too bad it cannot be titled or registered to drive..why not?... Really?? How did it get 42,000 miles on it?? Also the 66 GTO.. awesome..it's a street car.. worth every penny for sure.. I would have dropped 30= in a second for that!..love to drive it around town!..some unbelievable prices!..wow!

The car was built by Scott out of the doner car used to restore the SD Tempest wagon.Tom

I just have a hard time seeing a cowl hood on such a high pedigree Pontiac. Put an old school scoop sticking through the hood, velocity stacks, or maybe a 61-62 ford truck SD scoop.

I feel the same way seeing cowlhoods on 68-70 Chargers. Just turns my stomach to see it.

That hood doesn't scream Chevy to me, it is a "sort-of" style. It just say serious racer clearance needed. In this case it "fits" the car.

No it doesn't. Chevy may have started the whole cowl induction thing but go into the drag section and see how many '67-'69 'birds have one as well as many other Pontiacs. On the Williams wagon it fits very well. Long roof, long looking hood. Besides, the car has 2 doors, there is nothing about the car that is period correct.

Guyle (Floyd) Hand can't even get $18k for his car. Personally, I'd buy it before any of Wanger's cars. I've been tempted to try to sell my T/A clone, and buy it...

So, of course I did (this was in the middle of a weekday, so no traffic). Car had the 428, 200-4R, 3.73 gears in the 8.5 10-bolt from a GN and M&H Streetmasters. Gotta say, it did launch and run well.

That experience with the Ponte (and Jim's offer to have his engine builder, Duncan, build a 428 for me), caused me to do a major redo on my '66 GTO. To this day, I still have that 428 with solid roller and E-heads and EFI with a 200-4R and 3.73-geared 12-bolt, so apparently that car had quite an influence on me back then.
While it might be faster now, the earlier setup will (IMO) always be the Ponte Carlo.

People need to realize that there is a very limited market for hot rods and clones, especially when they are Pontiacs. And customs are very personal. Usually only the original owner likes how it is done. The Williams wagon was built with an identity crisis. It looks like a street car but it is a race car with a full interior. It would take a lot to make it a street car and a drag racer pretty much needs to gut the whole car. So to both potential buyers, that car is useless. Now, had that car been built as a pro-touring car, the market opens right up and the value goes way up. But it is not and a car with 200 grand into it is worth 30 grand.

Car looks hacked together IMO. SS nose with a landau top??? 18k was a gift.

I place no extra value whatsoever on a car that was owned by a "famous" person. The car is still a car that drives like a car regardless of who touched the steering wheel or farted in the seat..

Im really not sure what would be needed to race the wagon as is.Its a 9 sec race car that would make anyone a nice bracket car.Really no issue putting a 421 SD engine into a 63 tempest.Have done a few of them, one still in my garage right now.IMO,the car was bought well.Tom

Bought well, I agree, but some people said it should have been a lot more based on who owned it, who built it and that there was 200 grand spent on it. It does not work that way. As far as it doing 9's? Not too many people actually saw it make more than a couple of exhibition passes, so did it really run 9's? What does it need to actually race? That car is old and sat a lot. The engine needs to be tore down and gone through. New rings are a must as well as the heads will definitely need new springs and at least lap the valves. Anyone who thinks they can just turn the key and pound on it absolutely does not know anything about racing. You take that old build out and pound on it you will grenade it. Also, no competitive racer I know is going to run a car with all that weight of a full interior. And then there is all the minor items that need attention like suspension, brakes, tires, etc. That car needs a good 10 grand to get up to racing snuff. Maybe more.

For 40+ grand there are a hell of a lot faster cars on the market.
