Correct Z-bar for 4-speeed GTO
What is the correct Z-bar for a 66 4-speed car ?
I know the restoration guide shows one but how can you tell ? I have two different ones and they look very similar. Thanks,

Also on a 66 the arms are both straight..........if you measure from the end to the small arm its about 2 " in On the 67.......the length of the tube is 7 5/8.....if you measure from the end to the small arm its about 7/8 - 1" Not that i knew any of this stuff. LOL......I got this from Ames, im in the same situation as im not sure what z-bar i had either....hope that helps some Rich |

I am assuming a 66 Z bar is the same as a 65. The only 67 Z bar I have is from a 6 cylinder. The pictures are 65 Z bars.

Ok, this might be easier, is this a 66 or 67 Z bar.

It was my understanding that a 65 Z bar was a bit different than a 66 in that the arm for the lower clutch push rod is a bit closer to the block. I could be wrong on that, though.

This is as close as I can get a camera on a 65.

Z-06........mine looks like the one you have in the pic for a 66.......about 2" in from the end to the shorter arm.
I take it on the pic of the 67 bar.....its about an 1" in from the end to the shorter arm. Thats the way they are from ames.............well at least thats what they told me when i had the guy measure the two for me. From the pic, looks like a slight curve on the longer arm on a 67...............looks like the 66 long arm is straight. Thanks for the pics, helps my situation out. Rich |

The difference in the 67 Z bar may be do to the avalabilty of the better exhaust manifolds. The engine will sit in the frame the same on a 67 as it will on a 65 or 66. They all use the same bellhousing.

The pedal set up in the car is different, as the steering column is also different. I would think the connecting points would have to be different also.

The pedals and steering columns can be swapped around if you have the right parts. The rod that connects the Z bar to the brake pedal is different on a 67, there is also a welded on bracket on the 67 clutch pedal where the rod connects to. It's different on earlier cars.

67 clutch pedal and rod. The rod is on the wrong side of the bracket.
