After break in how often
After break in I am going to drain the oil and cut open the filter. If all is good I’m gonna refill with more break in oil and run 500 miles then change again. Should I change it at 1500 after that or what. My regular interval is 3000 but I just don’t want to switch too soon. How long do I run break in oil?

Hmm…not sure I would run break in oil after the break in?
I’ve always dumped the break in oil after break in, filled with oil of choice and change again at 500-1000 miles or so, take a close look and fill again with oil of choice and run to my preferred change interval.

I figured it was 300 miles or 5 hours of mostly increasing enthusiastic runtime. As for me, after that it seems random intervals between 3,000 thru 10,000 depending on the tomato crop yield.

Break in OIL has ZERO detergents...... similar to old school straight 30 weight 50 years ago.
Detergent can clean the cam ( and Rings) too much during first few hundred miles. This is why Break in oil is a MUST. NO, .......Zinc in regular or synthetic oil is NOT Break in oil... IF you do NOT overheat, you can run modern break in oil for the whole first cycle of 3-5K but you must check the level every few hundred miles. Break in oil does NOT remove combustion contaminates, so you should then switch to a modern oil with added Zinc if you have flat tappets. So your builder "broke in the cam". Still not a bad idea to run the break in oil as cams harden more through engine heat cycles.

After talking to the people at Lucas they said it would be fine to run the break in oil after initial change for one more round so I will do that but should I change it at 500 or 1000 miles cause they were indifferent on that question.
