on my 64 I was installing some new Halogen lights and notice that the buckets have R2 and L1 on them, any idea as to why, possible different from low to high beams? Car has been all apart and not sure if they are in right? Marking is near top adjuster screw attachment point.

Right & left and high & low beam buckets each go in their proper location. If you try the high/low bulbs in them you'll see the difference.

On my 64 GTO the R2 buckets are the dual beams and the L1 the high beams. The labeling doesn't seem logical but oh well.

Has 2 R2's and 2 L1's. But GtoFM appears to be on to something there. Will look tomorrow and see. I kinda figured R for right and L for left but
both R's have a 2 and Both L's have a 1. Might have them backwards. Will also look at tab locators to see if different as well. Maybe somebody with a Parts book
might have a part number for them?

Logic says L is Left & R is Right but not this time, go figure. 64 A-Body LH side.

Mine is Same as GtoFM R2 for low beam and L1 for high beam. But the high beam bucket is strictly for high beam and same for low beam.
they will not fit in each others bucket. And ya figured R for right, but like you said NOT this time. Trying to put some modern lights in old buckets, LOL.
Not as easy as one might think. One side mock up done, moving on to the other side. Seems this is a 64 thing.
