Just wondering, anyone offering a 'service' to disguise AL heads ( D-port ) ? Dave at SD Performance isn't interested in this as a CNC program, but thought perhaps someone else was offering a service an aftermarket service.

Just for kicks I decided to put some casting marks on an Edelbrock Performer intake. I was bored and had a few hours to burn. I cleaned the intake really well and then used some quick set JB Weld to make the marks. I used a flat toothpick to apply the JB Weld. I mostly just took a blob and let it begin to drip and then guided the drip onto the manifold in roughly the shape I wanted. Then, as it began to cure just a bit I would use a clean toothpick to straighten it up and push the sagging edges back into place. Once the JB Weld was completely cured I used a Dremel with a 1/16'' drill bit to profile the numbers and letters by swiping the drill bit against the sides. I rounded off the edges just a bit with the Dremel and a small grinding stone.
I started running short on time, interest and JB Weld and left off the firing order marks that would go in front of the carb. I'm not trying to fool anyone anyway. Just having some fun. |

Nice job!

Most folks would look at it and immediately think it's a factory intake.

You may want to try Frank at AllPontiac. He had some Tiger Cub heads done up to look like 614s for my 70 Formula. He's also done 093s for our friends 66 GTO.

Thanks guys. I thought it turned out pretty well. If I can ever get this engine back together we will see how well the JB Weld holds up over time.

boodlefoof- Mine (aluminum heads/intake) has been done 2 years and it looks as new. The engine has not been babied, either.

Thought I would bring this back up. Came across this video online. Some very good tips on how to disguise your aluminum heads. Guy said he used to write for HPP. Never said his name. Don’t recognize his face. Good watch:

Really creative guy!
I just removed the logos on the side and built a plate that bolts on to the front. which was painted like the rest of the heads to make them "stealth". To remove the logos I used a belt sander and to make it a little rough again I used a sand blaster... looks really nice but empty |
