A couple of pics of my mains girdle, a bit agricultural looking maybe but I wanted something that was relatively easy to fab without any complicated and expensive machine work, it seems to work. I also fitted longer dowel pins, and the girdle bolts at the oil pan rails are increased to 3/8". It also has a central oil scraper and the oil pan was knocked up from a stock pan, just deepened/widened and fitted with a diffuser screen, probably less than a $100 in the whole system.
Now if someone could cast up an iron 'clamshell' mains girdle incorporating the caps ,at a reasonable cost, I think they would sell like hotcakes.

I have done billet caps before, they were Pro-Engineering caps, and ran a stock pan. We did have problems with the dowel pins

That's a much fancier set-up than anything I use. Looks like you are in good hands.

Actually this is very old school, see the attached.

Take a look at the prices.

I had never seen that old Quick-Way. It looked to be in excellent condition from the pictures. All I have is the line bore attachment for the Sunnen line hone machine. It's a little Mickey Mouse but gets the job done. The line hone machine is super accurate, so I always leave plenty of material to hone. I fix the dowels in a regular old school vertical Bridgeport mill.

There is no guarantee, but we made more power with a weaker set-up than that and it lasted a few years at a time. Total of 3 455 blocks, all failed in the same place. A 400 with the smaller main size and a blower rather than the instant shock load of nitrous and our many marginal tune-ups while we were learning. You should be OK for a season, which is your stated goal. Keeping the RPM's under control will help. Also our car was much heavier and used a pedal clutch.

All good indicators that It will last the season.

Some place someone asked about a drive shaft.

Yes I have one.

Almost ready to pull the transmission and engine, both will go out to be freshened up.

The engine to Al at Freedom Racing Engines and the transmission to Dan of Dishon Transmissions

Steve B is kind of the man. I want to meet him someday, hang out and talk Pontiacs. Its going to be a good day. He has a freaking RAV boat, V drive ? There will be no shortage of things to talk about that day.
He has just done what so of us just wish we could do.

Steve has a M/T hemi in the boat. It's unique- the only known example of a complete hemi Pontiac actually built by Mickey. It has one of three iron blocks that PMD cast specially, with extra casting thickness at the top of the valley, to avoid hemi pushrod notches breaking into the water jackets. It went to at least a couple of owners prior to Steve buying it (complete) about ten years ago from Dave Stoll (remember the Hugh Tucker/Dave Stoll Chev roadster in '61/62/63?).

Glenn said "... I want one...". Why? What would you do with a pair of them, let alone just one?

Can you remove/install the driveshaft shield with the driveline in place?

You asked what an 8-counterweight crank is. Note that most V8 cranks have just six- a fully counterweighted crank also has the missing two (aside the #3 main journal). High speed engines love full counterweighting.

How much boost are you seeing now in the 8.0 index class?

Taff- I like your mains girdle.
