'66 quarters What to save
Hey, I have my 2 Dr Bonne parts car all cut up. I ended up with a good amount of useable stuff. A near perfect floor pan, Good trunk pan, 2 quarters that are probably good replacements, but have good sections for patching no matter what.
What should I keep on the rear quarters? Should I cut out the inner fender well? What about the interior sheet metal - should I cut that out? I don't know much about body work, so I don't know what someone would need to do a repair. The NOS ones I have seen are just the outer skin. Looks like a huge PITA to cut that off. I really would like to cut some more off of them to make them easier to store and handle, but I don't want to cut stuff off I am sorry about later. Need to get it done while I still have the back breaking saw here. I am going to put at least the floor pans in the 'For Sale' section soon. Not much clue about shipping, but I suppose it could be done.

Tough one. You either have to drill out all the spot welds to save every piece, or decide to save the trunk floor or save the inner wheel houses. If it were me, I would save the inner wheel houses and cut through the trunk floor. The repo trunk floors are not great, but they are reprodued, they do not make the wheel houses. Just my thoughts.

Drill out the spot welds and save the 1/4's, inners, outers, ect. Once they're separated they don't take much to store.

I cut the trunk floor on the seam and then cut the wheel wells out with a Sawzall, so I think it can all be used. Some of the inner part and some corners got clipped, but the pan would be easy to make near perfect out of the car the way it is. I am going to have another look, but I think I am just going to repair the one I have and not use this one.
Pretty sure I will use the bottom of the rear quarters to patch my wagon when that gets done. These are wider, but I am sure can be cut to make patches. I don't know if I am up for drilling out all those welds.

Bruce I have to wonder why you're cutting up a 66 that apparently is NOT a rusted hulk, especially in the most notorious locations for it? lol

The car had front-end damage. I had a clip for it and was going to use a few parts, put the clip on and either sell or make a project out of it, but when I got the car it turned out that there was not a straight friggin' part on it. The quarters have each got a place in them that is in the worst place to fix like a big kink in the ridge along the top edge. The tail panel same deal. There was no way it was ever going to sell or be anything but a giant money pit. Bad trade - cut your losses and don't look back.
Hopefully some of its parts will live on in other people's projects.

Ah, I see. Well at least you know when to say when...I've still got the Deathwish lurking around here (65GP parts car)...no engine or trans, very rough metal everywhere but a decent black interior. It's just sitting, slowly rusting away..and still can't bring myself to even part it out.

I just got tired of looking at it. I figured it was better to deal with it while it was just ME who was sick of it. Now I have 2 cut up and ready to go into the yard. Likely sell one more good one and narrow the focus and fun even further.
Once I confirm all the frame measurements are square - it will hopefully launch me into getting a long stalled project rolling again.

Bruce, glad to see you're not sittin' on your butt and still working the Pontiac passion I'll be following along with your rebuild. Maybe I can lend a hand one day.
Hope you get to drive the GP sometimes, that's a cool car.

2+2 has a shorter trunk and quarters than Bonny, like a Catalina or GP. But in a pinch...

The 2 doors are identical from wheel to wheel, rockers & floor pan thou. Just want to be sure if I find something that it will work.
Thanks guys |

I am crazy for the next few days, but I will send some Pics. The only issue with the rockers may be that on Bonnevilles they have holes for the bathtub clips that hold the body side armor. I will send Pics of that too.
