Default Anybody run an acumulator here?

I was wondering if anybody has run an accumulator in their race car before? I'm putting one in my car this spring. Where is the best place to plumb one in the block? Filter housing, top of the block? Thanks...Todd

I drilled a hole in top of the factory filter housing bisecting the passage going back into the block - the upper one. I tigged an aluminum male -10AN fitting on and plumbed the accumulator to it. Be sure to use a filter with anti drain back so the oil goes to the motor and not to the pan.

I had mine set up this way at first, but I split a stainless AN line and pumped a couple of quarts of oil into the car--not a pretty sight. Fortunately, I was in the staging lanes, not going down the track when the line let loose. The rules don't allow the lines in the car anymore. I moved mine into the engine compartment. It's a PITA, but I'm too cheap to buy an electric valve. I do still use the hole near the distributor with a 10AN line.

Ours is plumbed into the remote oil filter housing. There are in and out ports on both sides. One side goes in and out to the engine the other side goes in and out of the accumulator.

I believe it is the way to go...we had one in my brother's 66GTO...Wheelstander(Jeff Verdi's car now)... it was nice to pre-oil the engine after the car had been sitting, and when it was doin the big wheelstands, it was nice to know that it wouldnt run outta oil with the rear bumper on the ground...hehe,,,, i need to get one for my car

we had his plumbed into the top of the block...

Mine is set up the same as Probird. On the War Chief I made an adapter the goes between the oil filter housing and the block.

I tapped mine directly into the block where the oil filter adapter housing would have bolted on.

Both mine are plumbed into the back of the block by the distributor. You need to have a check valve installed in the system to prevent it from back flushing the oil filter when it dumps.

Taken from the accusump instructions.

Check Valve #24-280 Can be used in systems with external oil lines to ensure that oil can only flow in one
direction; has 1/2" N.P.T. female threads. While the check valve is helpful, it is not absolutely necessary as in most
cases the oil will not back feed through the oil pump

Would you please explain where and how you install this check valve.
