Crane adjustable can
Still have this mounted to my stock HEI. Forgot how adjustment was made and what size allen wrench.
I was always messing around with timing back then with my 428, however, that motor is ready to come out, and a fresh, mildly built 462 in going in soon. I plan to use the same dist. It's been dependable. Can I make adjustments and see results bench testing using a mighty-vac? If so, how? I still have a new (stock) vac adv can that I used long ago with this dist. I've read here the Pontiac 455's like a lot of timing and advance. Which would you use? The cam is a flat tappet CCxe274 grind, and the heads are the 6x-8 re worked with larger ex seats un ported chambers. CR around 9.3

It adjusts using a 3/32" allen. They say to screw the allen in all the way clockwise to start. If spart knock is heard at part throttle, you are to turn the allen CCW until no knock is heard at part throttle. I can't answer other questions, but I wpuld think you would need to wait and see how it performs in the engine. My distributor was set up with the Crane kit on a distributor machine, but I had to end up fine tuning the curve after I got the engine up and running.

Use the Crane unit. The stock units were calibrated for specific parts combinations with no adjustability. The Crane has adjustability & since your engine is now non-stock, the Crane will allow you to dial it in.

That's the answer I needed. KISS. I always remember that phrase! Thanks to you all. Very helpful information.
