Steved,

Let me see if I got this right. You are saying that the rivets are in backwards???? What we see in the pic should be on the other side of the vin?

I guess I will have to go out and look at mine. Never been removed.

Primer,

Don't apologize for your GTO. I've got a '72 LeMans in my garage that is badly eaten with rust, but it'll have better days. Your 70 looks great next to mine.

Make your GTO something you'll enjoy and you'll soon find out that it will never be finished, but it'll be fun. Some will say "keep it original", but I say just enjoy and make it the way you want it, but never misrepresent what you did.

Welcome aboard ... there's some great advice on this forum from some really smart folks. I'm just not one of them! (ha)

here is a copy of my build sheet, I`ve added a few options as i plan to keep this car forever!! It still has the unitized ign. w/ nos sparkplug wires, I`ve added p/w windows, locks seat, tilt steering and factory cruise control, I believe it just about has every option available! then again it came with alot also, looks like the original tried to make it as close to a "gto" as possible( posi rear gauges tach ect...)those vin rivets makes me suspect a body swap?? I`m real anal on the details, and I see alot of shortcuts and incorrct things on that car, but it does look very nice!

It actually looks as if it were mounted under the mounting tabs instead of on top of it. Completely different. Not even close. And rivets are backwards. Hmmmmm........

Those are two of the best looking 72 GT converts I've ever seen! The Yellow one is very sharp, and my only wish is they would have put the correct 72 exhaust in it for the money. I think they also didn't paint the hood scoops inserts black like all ram air cars did or add the decals either. The White and Gold winged GT is especially well appointed.

Can Wagner's classic get the money? I think they have over priced cars before and let some go for next to nothing. They sold a numbers matching Black 4-speed car RA IV Judge with PHS and other documents for like 30K a couple of years ago. A very well restored 71 Judge that was in a car museum for 80K. Probably cost 80k for the resto, so they got the Judge for free? I bet this car will be on ebay soon, and won't get close to 100k.

JLP,

Here's another shot of my vin ... the dash is brown. The 90 degree bent "tabs" which hold the rivet are below the black vin tag.

I'll try to "kidnap" the Wagner GT photo that PB posted in the next posting so you can see them next to each other.

PB's post reminded me of a rusted out original paint '72 gto that I looked at yrs ago.The stripe on one side was put on so far back, they had to tuck the end behind the rear bumper, must have been hung-over that morning!!

One of the interior. All I need to do is add a rear sway bar which I have, and a bigger diameter front one, and VIOLA, a GTO for all practical purposes! Only the people in the know, knows there never was one! But it was fun changing everything to make it look like one in 72.
