Fuel Pump Bolts?
Folks,
Did Pontiac use washers from the factory on the 12 point factory bolts for mechanical fuel pumps? If so, what kind? The last time I replaced a fuel pump, I didn't use washers. I just put some sealer on the bolt threads. Thanks Old Joe

Mine had rubber coated flat washers.

Factory fuel pump bolts are not 12 point.

Some of them were 12 point. I have several here that up pulled from salvage yard engines.
The factory did use a special sealing washer at least on some.

I've got (3) 68 engines and all of them have the same 12 point heads on the bolts, so I'm guessing they were correct for 68. That said, only one of them had washers and those were just ordinary hardware store washers. I read somewhere else that Pontiac had rubber coated washers on the fuel pump bolts, but not sure if it was all V8 engines or just certain years.

Any pictures of these 12 points? I would like to see the 68 bolts I have never seen one on a 60’s engine.

I looked at one of the sets of bolts I have from my 68 and they are identical including the head marking. Did yours come with washers? If so, got a picture of those?

I have never seen such in all many Pontiac motors I have ever had or disassembled!

No washers handy. I have all my leftover nuts and bolts in about 10 Folgers cans.
I bought a replacement set from our sponsor. Pg 196 in current catalog https://secure.amesperf.com/qilan/De...A&web_access=Y https://secure.amesperf.com/qilan/De...A&web_access=Y

Ames lists these bolts for 64-68 engines. If you only had newer engines, perhaps that was it (or of course they were long disgarded by a non-original type person). Nahhhhhhhhhh that person couldn't be. LOL

They are 3/8" I believe and wouldn't work in the later 5/16" holes. Dad's 65 GTO has the same fasteners as pictured.

These were pulled off an early 1968 YS engine. They are larger as indicated, 3/8”. They originally had steel washers that had rubber encapsulated on one side. Unfortunately they were deteriorated and I discarded them.

Found these pics on the web of what the originals looked like. Again these would have been for the earlier timing cover.
AMK also offers excellent replacements for the bolts and washers… |
