Question RAV Headers

Sometime in the not-so-distant past, I would have sworn that Mad Dog Headers was a company that fabricated headers for RAV heads. I talked to Jackie at Mad Dog Headers today and she told me that they no longer do, but someone (Mark- who is now wintering in Florida right now but will be coming back in about a month) that used to work there has a soft spot for Pontiacs and still makes headers for our brand.

So, the first question is.... Has anyone had any headers built by them and how was the fit and quality??

2) Does anyone know Mark from Mad Dog and his reputation?

3) Does anyone have any other names or leads on companies or individuals that make them??

Sorry for all the questions about this, but I read so many things on this forum about the nightmares of guys trying to have headers made for them and then getting screwed along the way.

Jim,what body do you have? There is a guy that makes a great set for a A body-Gen 2 birds. If you have one of them PM me and will give you his contact.I have a set that I use for breakin or dyno runs.I just sold my first gen custom made on my 69.When I checked with Maddog I was told that the jigs had been destroyed for V headers.Tom

I need the headers for a 1969 Firebird.
I have the engine going into the car with a front plate and mid-plate.
It will have a powerglide.

Forgot to add that I had removed the stock steering links and steering box and had a rack and pinion put in when i took the car to S&W in PA to have my chassis done.

The chassis is certed for 7.50.

I have Round port Mad Dog headers on my Firebird(1967) . They fit well. I bought them from a member here. With having motor plates, and rack/pinion steering why not just have the headers built for the car. Or have a set of existing round port headers re-flanged and made to fit the V heads? I have don't that with a set of 2" round port headers, re-flanged to fit D-port heads.

Just bite the bullet and get a set built on your car!I think BBC for a first gen would be more EZ to reflange.I know they are expensive to do custom BUT everything fits.Your already in a part of our hobby that is not for the weak of wallet!Tom

I have owned two sets of MADDOG headers in the past.
1st set way back in the mid 70s.
They were a D-port head to a round port tube

2nd set were RA-IV conventional 4 tube collector pattern.
Both sets were for a A-Body vehicle so sorry no experience with the F-Bird chassis but have a lot of respect for Mark at MADDOG.

I have a set of RAV headers that I won't be using, might be able to reconfigure them to fit. Not sure what body they were made for. If interested I can PM some pictures.

I have a set of Maddog headers. Mark was the owner and has sold the business to his son.

Kooks ought to provide what ever you desire in top quality.

Try Tubular Automotive in Mass.

My bud has a '69 Firebird with a RAV,and I think that they made his headers.

I had Mark (from Mad Dog) make one side of RPs with 2" primaries for my 1967 Firebird 2 years ago and he was easy to deal with, spoke with him directly.

They will make them but I don’t think they have a jig for them. They don’t list RAV headers in their catalog. Would need the car.
They do excellent work though, been around a long time.

Default V headers

McCarty posted a pic on FB of these. I don’t know what chassis they fit.

That supply should make a few sets of RA-V headers.

Mark is the owner of mad dogs father in law . He’s a great guy and he did a nice job on my V headers for me . There’s one tube that needed to be changed and I sent him that info make sure it gets changed when you do yours he’s reasonable and good quality work. .

Tubular used to make them but they lost their jig so that’s a no go unless they found it again . Jeff Jolley makes shorties and TOM S has a guy for some custom shortie type also. The current ones on my car are from mad dogs father in law but expect April or later for him to start in them . Super nice guy though and great work.
