Default 400 small register crank strength

Getting ready to build a 78' 400 for a customer and it has the lighter, thin counterweight, small crank register crank in it. Has anyone had any issues with these cranks in a performance application? The engine will have out of the box KRE D port heads and a hyd. flat tappet cam, probably be around 390-400 Hp range. I have other earlier N cranks but would like to stick with this crank since it's std/std., if it's strong enough.

I would only have a start for concern once the 475 to 500 hp level was being reached.

The core of the crank where it counts in terms of strength is still the same, as in from a main or rod journal to the crank cheek.

Plus with a 3.750” stroke the rod fillets are seeing 12.5% less G force then if the motor was a 455.

Consider most Chevy motors have a small register too.

Wasn't worried about the small register per se. I was only mentioning to help identify which crank I was referring to that had the narrow counterweights. I've decided to use it.

Hi Skip, I know of a few auto trans cars. It's a nice way to remove several pounds of rotating weight. Every so often I come across a light weight casting with a large flywheel register.... Those are the hot set up.

What the part number on the crank? Just curious, I tore down two later 400s not too long ago and both crank had a 350 part number on it

I know Bill Rink, (RIP) used the small register, light cranks in his stock and SS 74 GTO. That was a 350 inch engine however. He ran it hard and at high RPM's. 10.60's. Not aware of him ever breaking one.
