Lifters
I got my ls7 lifters today and they will not work. The oil hole is to high and comes out the top of the bore with a mild lift cam. Going to talk to comp and see if they can grind the pontiac cam on a smaller base circle to allow use of these lifters. Realize this could be an option if your ordering a custom grind cam anyway. Still looking at other possible cost effective lifters to evaluate. The ls7 oil band location is ok they have moved the oil hole up and put a notch out of the oil band to get oil to the hole. Hope this info helps I will keep updating as I research and test more.

.033 can be reamed, then honed out of the lifter bosses.

Jim Lehart is doing OK. I forgot all about this.

As for the SBF roller lifters- I chose them as a starting point because I like the generous roller width and rugged body support of the axle. I've had no problem with them in the hemi V8, even with its heavy valvetrain and 625 lb. spring loads.

Plus you're modifying the block beyond no return which makes it useless for stock stuff, and it's not something most here would want to convert over if it requires now taking the block to a machinist just because a guy wants a roller cam. I'd only be interested in this type of deal if a drop in lifter can be found to be used. |

I posted earlier I've bought brand new dog bones, spider, and roller lifters from Ford Racing for just $175. So that price seems a bit high, even if it were new.

Kinda hard to do with a assembled motor in the car also.

How about Pontiac 2.5 Iron Duke roller lifters?? I think I heard Mr. P Body talking about using those at one time? I am pretty sure they are the right diameter. I am not sure if the oil band height is correct though.

It is, I have a spare HT2148B. This seems to be the go to lifter for corporate motors since the SBC went roller in 87. To me of equal concern is the the main barrel of the body also pops out of the bore - this would wreak havoc on the dogbone!
I tested this with a Summit 2801 cam (yes, it is a flat tappet but I figure the base circle and max lift would be the same). |

ANY way at all to grind the slot as Paul Carter has done with an assembled shortblock?

I was thinking about roller lifters last night, and had a thought... Harley V-Twins have had hydraulic roller lifters in them forever.
Anyone have a spare H-D lifter to measure?
