wheel well removal 1970
just wondering it they can be removed with out removing the fenders? I did a search and only found a Firebird thread. I would like to clean them up and paint them. I remember a few years back replacing the heater core (prefer not to remember that one nut) and loosened up the passenger well but I could not figure out how to remove it.

I've done it on my '68. Much easier than I thought it would be. You do have to be careful of scratching them up though and I have to say, the front bumper was off of my car which makes the fenders a little bit more flexible.

Yep, I removed mine on the GT-37 to diagnose the blower motor that was inop with the fender still on the vehicle.

If your inner fenders are nice and solid, they are the perfect application for being powder coated. I think I paid $140 to have mine done in satin black. Too early to tell if they will hold up better than catalyzed paint, but I like the idea....
I have also taken them off without removing the fender. Mike |

Thanks guys. I'll give it a try then. My fenders look fine on the inside but on the outside have some kind of coating or caked on dirt .... not sure. Powder coating is a good idea. I understand they should be painted in underhood black. Is that satin?

Krylon 777 Satin is best for wheel wells - you can search this site to confirm. - I had mine sand blasted and epoxy primered... then sprayed 777 on them - if you get them powdercoated, its unlikely the color will be right
Here's a post from a while back - I posted pics of wheel well removal while keeping fender on car. http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...t=wheel+blower and here's a pic of my judge with 777 fender wells
