Muncie Info
Just discovered that my '65 Tempest has a 4-speed Muncie unit ... case says "GM Patent 3925660" which I believe decodes to a 1968-70 unit with a 1" bore.
What is better / worse about this unit than say the one produced in 1965? And would this be an M-20 or M-21 unit? Can't find much more on this casting / patent number... |

As far as the m20 or 21 ,there should be another code on the trans.I found mine on the pass. side of the case right in front of the tailshaft. My car is a 71' GTO.P1B26A,in my case means-Muncie,1971,february,26th day, wide ratio
I got the codes off of gtoalley.com.Look up your codes.Hope this helps.Drake |

another good site for Muncie info is http://www.5speeds.com/muncie2.htm , but as far as good or bad, not really sure if there any diff. M20 has good 1st gear compared to 21 or 22. I have m21 in my 64 lemans it has 3.23 in rear which taking off from light kinda hard on the clutch.

The earilier ones (before 67 or 66) had the smaller 7/8 dia counter shaft.
