Default Qjet Accelerator Pump Partition Broken

I've heard talk of a repair for the accelerator pump linkage partition ( the pin goes through it) and was wondering if someone can share what they've done. I have an 800 CFM Buick carb that I acquired because of this. It was freshly rebuilt and it happened on install.
It is the outer partition that is broke off flush.

Any help is appreciated

Joe

I have a friend that bought a q-jet from SMI, Sean Murphy Induction and it had been repaired there. Give him a call and see if he can help you.

My mind says something like this is the fix minus the step.

I've fixed a few by fabing a little 'L' shaped bracket out of .050" stainless steel.
I leave the bottom long enough for the mounting bolt to go through. Then inbetween the mounting bolt and 'L' put two small screws (taper headed and counter sunk) through the bracket into the top of the carburetor.

Not hard to do and looks pretty neat when you trim the edges of the bracket to fit the top of the carburetor just right.

No braze, the repair was done in a milling machine.

We offer that service here still.

If you still have the piece that broke away:

Remove the airhorn
Clamp the broke piece in place
Drill 2 holes from underneath, and tap for a 2x56 machine screw
Install (2) 2x56 machine screws with a drop of blue loctite on the thread
Let set unmolested for 24 hours.

Fixed.

If you do not have the missing piece, cut one from an otherwise unuseable airhorn for the piece.

Jon.

^^^^ sounds fine.

Just want to say (a long time ago) i broke that piece off, and JB-Welded it back on and it held through many Street/Strip uses. Worked yet a better fix gives better assurance.

Is there some under lying problem that might cause this?

I had this happen a few years back on an Olds carb. Carb still worked just fine until I replaced it with another correct #.

Until this happened, I had never heard of this problem before. Since then, only seen or read of a few examples.

It usually happens when the roll pin is pushed back thru instead of cutting it off and driving a new one in place.

I repair them all the time here, with or without the original part.....Cliff
