Default '71 GTO

Hi everyone. Not sure this belongs here, so the moderators can feel free to move it. I've been watching a particular '71 GTO for a short time. It had been on ebay recently but the reserve was never met. The last bid was $28,000.00. I see it listed again on ebay. I put a bid in but I'm sure there is a long ways to go. The car is listed as belonging to Smokey Mountain Traders. It is brownish in color with a black vinyl top. A young lady is standing in front of it. Not sure she is part of the package, but that would be ok with me LOL. No listing number and I don't know how to transfer it here. It looks quite nice in pics but don't they all. If someone would take a moment and take a peek, I'd be very grateful. I could use your honest opinion. I should also add that I've seen this same car for a buy it now at another site for $37,000.00. Nice car but I have no interest in paying that amount. Thank you very much, Carmine.

This the one?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1971-Pontiac...m=142204703739

Seems like a nice car, but since it's just a basic 400/auto '71 GTO, I don't see how it could be worth more than $27k?

Smoky Mountain Traders, I don't know anything about them other than they take good photos and videos of their cars but they are pricey. And yes, I do agree the model is worth a look too!

If interested and like the car. Call them and ask them if you can offer them a price subject to inspection.

The car has been restored back to original very nicely fitted body lines. Easy to change things, but nice to see some OEM correctness. Open face alternator and a nice original interior are bonuses.

only thing is the body vinyl stripes (D98) are a nice add in lieu of body molding(B84) imho...

Car is a nice original GTO for sure. They are sweet cars for sure.

Is a pretty nice looking car, paint look's like Rosewood and you don't see many in that color if it's the original color on this car?

Lyn.

Yes, that is the one. Thanks for posting that link. I sent them an email asking about the PHS documentation. The car looks quite nice. Everything appears to be done. I don't think those mufflers are stock. Someone mentioned stripping on the car which I like. But, is that stock/factory stuff?? As I mentioned, the high bid that didn't reach the reserve, was $28,000.00. I'm not sure I would have even gone that high. It has a few days left on ebay. I'm going to watch it and as it gets closer, I may very well call them. By then, I'm sure I'll have some questions. Thank you everyone for looking, Carmine.

I like the fit on the nose - those are not fun. But either vinyl top or stripes, not both. $0.02

Default 71 GTO

Thats near Knoxville ,Tn. area. I stopped in there about 4 years ago and looked their inventory over. They do have lots of cars there for sale. This car looks better in pics than any other GTO's they had there at that time. They had a few clone Judges at the time that were kinda sloppy restorations.
Be sure to view the PHS before you make any decisions.

Good to know. Thanks. I'm not sure how far this will really go. As I previously mentioned, they refused on an ebay posting-didn't reach reserve-$28,000.00 and on another site it was buy it now at $37,000.00. I don't have an interest in either price, Carmine.

If you're not interested in paying 28k for a restored 71 matching GTO. Good luck with your search.

Thanks, but I have no interest at all in paying that price. As mentioned in a previous thread, nothing special about it. It does appear to be done over nicely though. Matching numbers certainly a plus. I've been looking for quite a while and have a decent idea what is out there. I've seen some comparable ones a little cheaper; maybe not by much. I didn't care for the colors that is why I didn't inquire further. I do like the color of this one. I apologize and I'm not trying to offend anyone, but I think some people are dreamers. I really hope they get what they are asking. It doesn't affect me at all, Carmine.

Just confused?

You brought it up? No interest? .
Don't like color? Don't like price?

Like I said before, good luck with search...

Yes, dealers are dreamers of suckers with stupid money. If thats the point. I agree.

54000 miles and needed to be fully restored. That is something I would question. And the price is way too high.

What gives you the indication that it needs to be fully restored ?

Looks awful with the stripes. I wonder what the default stripe color was with Rosewood?

I have similar thoughts about their operation.

Several years back, my wife and I took a long weekend in the Appalachian mountains, spending one day at Pontiacs at Pigeon Forge. One of the locals told me about Smoky Mountain Traders, so we swung by there on Monday to see what they had.

My impression was that they were expensive, and the quality of the cars was all over the place. I could see things that were incorrect with the Pontiacs I looked at, but I would consider them as a cosmetic or amateur restoration. I don't think Smoky Mountain does any of the restoration work themselves, so it's hard to say what the quality of workmanship for any individual car is like. They probably buy what they can find, and flip them. They did have a bunch of cars on site.

I would never purchase a used car from a dealer. Most dealers (also known as stealers) cannot be trusted.
