Is it undercoating or just grime? Engine cleaner works good on undercoating, or a heat gun.

Cool thread!

I've dealt with Mike before; he's good people.

My parts stash is 7,000 miles away, but I'll be home next week. What's the shopping list look like now?

He is still looking for a hood and not sure yet if he has a rear valence, I need to look but I am in Europe right now. I think there is one in my stash(rear valence) I know I do not have a god hood though and his is tough on a good day. I think he may also need some of the plastic trim on the seats. Mark

Let me know when you'll be here; we should link up. Pizza and vino rosso (or Peroni) is on me.

Where are you now? TDY, on vacation, or ?

Ciao,

Scott

So My son has been scraping away at the car, making some headway. While I was TDY in Europe he finished the front valance and then we fixed the shifter porch as it was cut out a bit for an aftermarket shifter. That came out nice. These is still a bunch of scraping to do then clean up followed by the bodywork on the car itself. Thankfully it is just filling work on the whole as there is minimal rust. Just thought an update was in order.

One of his best friends is getting ready to move to MI so he has been hanging out with him a bunch, he went with his aunt and uncle for the long weekend as well so he has been a busy guy. I will prod him.

So just an update, we went on a big family vacation so we basically lost 3 weeks with the prep and recovery time. My son has been working for a friend of mine who is a plumber as a helper for most of the summer to build up his cash to buy some of the interior parts he still needs. He has the floors most of the way cleaned up and they look great. The core support is very nice and came out well thanks to one of the board members, he was able to sell a couple of parts and put that toward the interior too. He has worked hard and been very lucky, the plumber buddy of mine is a car guy too so he gets it and has been very supportive and paid Jon very well. He is learning abut putting in solid 10 hours of work and then finding the energy to put another hour or 2 on the car to keep it moving forward. Tough lesson to learn when you have the time you usually don't have money and vice versa.

Your son is learning some amazing life lessons. Hopefully that translates to a good job where he makes more money, and can spend more time doing something other than his job.

Good work!

I hope so, this vacation was to expose my kids to Europe so they could see something outside of the US. I wanted to give them an understanding about others. This summer of working hard will hopefully help my son in deciding what he likes to do, he has made good progress on the car. He was a bit down in that he realized it is expensive to do, I had to explain to him that is why it takes years for many to pull this off and actually finish a car. Also the better the car you start with is the less it often costs to do it, he is also seeing that the level that you take a car to has a very clear relationship to cost! I hope I am doing right by him, he is learning.

Ok so we have a good deck lid to work with (thanks Steve V) and A new shot of his continuing efforts to clean the floor pan up(he has slowed here as it has been hard work but he is coming along. Also you can see where we have to fab a patch on the wheel arch.

Ahh, getting rid of paint, rust, and undercoat. I know it all too well - scraping, grinding, heat gun, torch, paint remover, sandblasting, razor blades, dirt in your eye, sliced fingers, nasty paint remover fumes, etc.

Getting close on my Alfa Romeo; will be glad when it's all shiny bare metal.

Ciao, y'all.

Scott

I think cleaning the underside is the most tedious part of all of this, it get the most stuff caked on and is exposed the most and as you said most likely to take it's pound of flesh as well.

As I always say, and practice (not by choice!), the job isn't done until you bleed!

Nice job on the core by the way! (Sorry about all the extra holes!)
