Maybe your right. I have never driven his cars! I remember years ago i let him race my 64 GTO at Supercar Showdown because i was going to be out of town. Maybe i should stop at your trailer and have a couple of Blue Lights with Jimmy to loosen up! Back when i had the Ram Air 5 in my 69 GTO,I was at the GTO Nats racing another GTO with a 5 in it,and the guy told me"If you want to really see what that car will do,lets go have a few drinks,or give somebody else the keys. All your thinking about is all that money you have in the motor, and how rare it is!" Any way you slice it,it sure is a hell of a good time.Wished there was more time to hang out.At the end of the day i usually have a headache from laughing so hard from everybodys storys.

And as always, I had a blast also. Great to see some friends up north around a dragstrip.
If any of you that have not been could attend just once as a spectator..... You had better bring some needle nose pliers to get the hook out of your mouth after its over.
It is a great motivator to work on your projects.
Just put the posi unit and 2.5 exhaust on the bird this week. Couple of weeks late, but already feel the improvment. The tailpipes were bent down to 1.5 inches coming out of the mufflers.

Visit yenko.net, then go to the "other" room and you'll find two threads on the PD Drags.

Hey Chris -

What clutch and pp are you running in your car? I plan to go with Centerforce billet flywheel (#700600) and dual friction clutch. Not sure what size to order, however. Do you have the 10.4" or 11"? Centerforce tech wasn't sure if the 11" would work with a stock bell.

Thanks

Scott

Scott, saw your other thread about clutches in the race section.
I can't answer the 11" vs. 10.5 bellhousing question, but my Centerforce DF 10.5" has been in the car since 08' and takes nothing but constant abuse on the street and strip. No slipping yet. I have to adjust it pretty much after every trip to the track, but it's still going strong.

Centerforce Dual Friction, the 10.4". and running a centerforce flywheel also. I actually have a brand new never used #700600 billet Centerforce flywheel for sale. shipping it though would probably negate the price savings I'm asking vs just buying from Summit

A few Pure Stock racers have tried the Centerforce DFX clutch and it's nothing but JUNK

John G., who owns that burgundy RA 5 now? Would like to keep track of it because that motor was in my best friends grandfathers car from new. You probably know the guy who has the car now, its a 65 bonne now owned by David Davis who lives in the Falls. I havent seen it in years, but the story is my friends dad was willed the car but David kind of took it from the mom and now the brothers dont talk anymore, but theres a lot more to the story. Do you know about this? I think you got the motor from Chuck Wright who took it out of the Bonne. He should be close to 70 now and dont have any kids. My buddy (his nephew) invited him to his wedding, but he didnt show up, but was hoping to make ammends with his family in hopes of keeping the car in the family and maybe getting the 5 motor back in it.

toying with the idea of 4.33s in the car as I have a line on some. however, this past Sun at a TnT session at US41 in Morocco, IN conditions were ideal. about 47 and overcast. 5-10 mph tailwind. DA of -1068ft!!!!! I ripped off a 1.94 60ft on my way to a 12.55 @ 112.17 I'm still in disbelief. I knew the car had a little bit more in her, but holy crap!!!!

Cool! Those are some great times.
I hope to be in the 12's someday, but a long way to go.
I did knock a few .1's off my 60' this year with the 3.90's,but never beat my old best times as the DA was never as good on the few times I made it out this year.

Wow!!!!!! That is awesome! Those have to be the best numbers ever out of a Pure Stock D-port Pontiac.

I was feeling pretty good about getting a 12.65 out of my Lemans at Atco on Sunday, but your numbers blow me away! Great job!

Hey Darrel.I just stumbled across this ,so thought i would respond.I still have have the Burgandy car. However,i sold the motor to a member here,Richard Sargeant, who has some killer cars. Chuck never owned the motor, that i know of. Actually it was not a motor,it was the heads, intake, carb, cam, rods, manifolds, and distributor. That top end was actually on Davis,s Bonneville. He put these parts on the 421.We have worked on Daves car several times, and it is a fantastic car,and he is a really nice guy. From what i gathered over the years,Dave got the car because the others were not really into cars.Dave is a true car fanatic, loves that car, babies it,and would not sell it for any amount of money. So in that respect,i think it went to the right guy.If my facts are straight. I actually bought all the RA 5 stuff from a guy named Jim Bishop. He had a distributor machine for sale in the paper.Went to look at it,and seen the ra5 stuff on the shelf, and said,"I dont want the dist machine, but i will take that pile over there!" That was about 23 years ago,and i think thats the last good deal that i have got on a Pontiac part since.

It sounds like you have the car dial in pretty good. Changing the rear end gear ratio from 3.90 to 4.33s will probable get you another 2tenth off. Other than changing the gear ratio, have you exhausted all other upgrades within pure stock drag rules?

The engine was built to I'd say like 99% of the max allowed. Too much time and money to go any further on the engine. Besides, I think it's fine and I knew that when it was built. I just have detail items left there (better chrome valve covers, better chrome air cleaner lid, things like that). I do have some suspension things to do, such as replacing the last two rear rubber bushings with polygraphite. I do need to drop the tank, clean or replace, and replace the sending unit as I've been clogging fuel filters lately. Otherwise, lots of cosmetic stuff. Although most of it will have to wait until my W-31 is ready for the Pure Stock Drags as I need to have at least one car eligible to participate.

Yeah the suspension is a big factor. Correct me if I'm wrong but I would think a suspension that is alittle worn out, you'll have a better launch.
