I like the black too & think it suits the car - all business, no window dressing.

Here's my vote:
1. VIN Escutcheon - if you already have one on your car, it use it. My 71-1/2 GT-37 (Pontiac Plant) did not have one.
2. Leave tach in the dash
3. No wood grain, the Black Dash Bezel looks good on GT-37s
4. Stick with the Custom Cushion Steering wheel. To me it shows the guy that originally ordered the car would rather spend the money on the 455HO rather than a Formula Steering wheel.
5. If your non 4555 Hurst shifter is already rechromed, restored and ready to go....use it. Don't delay the resto over that.

The 4555 handles come up for sale all the time, why install something that is wrong? I guess it comes down to what one's goals are with a car. The nice thing about steering wheels is they are real easy to swap on and off. Same with the radio blockoffs, if goal is to show at Nationals in concours class, can easily show with whatever radio came originally in the car, then the resto gets a little wear on it & want to run the car at the track & want to knock off a little weight, carefully pull the radio & mount the delete plate. Both my T-37 & GT-37 came from factory with Formula wheels. Only have one perfect early thick one to share between 3 cars. The Formula wheels were not avail with man strg, too small a diam & Pontiac figured they wouldn't hold up well being tugged on in parking lots. I picked up a nice blue 2 spoke std wheel, so if I ever want to convert the GT-37 to manual steering & knock off 25 lbs, I can. Have a fairly nice black 2 spoke as well that I need to restore.

Regarding the VIN escutcheon or Bezel (part# 480749) as Pontiac calls it, looking at section 14-6 in the 71 Factory assembly manual, directions are to install it in all A series EXCLUDING 233 (T-37). Well my 233 ended up with one anyways, as did the woodgrain application on the rally gauge cluster, go figure.

Agreed. My Pontiac-built GT-37 has the woodgrain w/Rally gauges.

Gauges and wood on my T-37.
Guess I better sell the bench seat shifter I bought years ago or swap it for a correct one.

Well, of course I spent good money on the rechrome of the bench seat handle. Thanks Scott but I have a nice 4555 already and it needs to be rechromed for show.

If you have one of show quality lets talk!
Anyone need show quality bench seat shifter?

Like Roger said radio is easy. Delete plate for the track, AM for show and speaker with wood magnet will be in place either way...

I will probably go with Formie wheel as I like it better (says GT not TA). I like John's thoughts on 3 spoke as a upgrade to standard (11.70) left a little coin for 455 HO.

Both of our cars were early striped GT-37s and "Canada Car M.A. Invoice Custom's form" built in Pontiac hence the vin plate vinyl covers?

My car did come with vinyl trim and carpet but, Norms was carpet and fabric/vinyl seats.

They both had PS and PB with Spg&Shks-R/H and Rally Gauges. Norm's car got the tach and has woodgrain (not burlwood).

Norm's car got dual horns and mine underhood lamp. No dome light in either...

Gotta admit the black formula wheel looks nice with the black dash

I agree with that too, and the radio delete looks even better in the "econo-lightweight-performance" minded package...

I am putting on G70-14 Polyglas all around....

My 1971 GT-37 has the plastic bezel on the VIN tag. I believe my car was built in Atlanta, Ga.

We are both gonna get big bucks for our cars on EBay with our rare factory mistake VIN bezel cars!

BTW: Going with original skinny tires, and without the added rocker molding and drip rail trim. Plastic bezel will be on car.

Can anyone with documentation comment on the placement of the "455 HO" decal. Like a factory assembly manual.

I see a little difference in these:

Sorry Mike, no Factory documentation here, but IMO, the ones that are higher and even in the middle of the upper reflector are more accurate. My reasoning comes from the placement of the 455 emblem on '72's. That is where they are located, so I'm guessing that they carried that location over from '71. Just a guess. The middle pic looks "right"

No help here as the factory did not put them on mine. I have good pics but no sickers. Here is one.
